2025 MLB

And Detroit wins. Cleveland finishes the season with three games at home against Texas and Detroit finishes with three in Boston. Both will possibly get a playoff spot as both are +1 as to the wildcard.

Of course making the playoffs in any way is of the most importance but I'd rather win the division. Right now Cleveland is in first place in the division due to having the head to head tie breaker even though they are tied with Detroit.

If I've figured thing right Cleveland's 'magic number' is 2 for the division... mayhaps 3 but I THINK 2... No, probably 3. Cleveland wins out and sweeps Texas they have the division. If Detroit wins out in Boston and sweeps and Cleveland loses one game against Texas I think Detroit has the division.

In either case this has to be one of the best season closing in a long time. :) GO TRIBE!!! ;)

Can't believe that I'm breaking a major rule as to being a Cleveland fan... I'm actually pulling for Boston to win. Of course that has just a little to do with Boston playing Detroit. Boston sweeps Detroit and Cleveland has the division no matter how Cleveland does in their last three games. ;)

LOL! I'm trusting that there is a clause in the Cleveland fan charter that covers such situations and it is allowed. :rofl:

What a weird Cleveland season! They have had their ups and downs but they just clinched the playoffs. One game left that will decide if Cleveland is division winner or wildcard. Right now Cleveland and Detroit are tied and Cleveland has the head to head tie breaker. If Cleveland wins the season's last game they win the division. If, both Cleveland and Detroit lose Cleveland wins the division. If both win Cleveland wins the division. LOL! Would have been a lot shorter if I had just said that the only way Cleveland does not win the division is if Detroit wins and Cleveland loses in the last game.

Have to give the Cleveland team credit. In July hey were 15.5 games out and considered done. Yet, with one game left they are in the playoffs, at least as a wildcard, and can still win the division with a Cleveland win and/or a Detroit loss in the last game of the season.

Well the Red Sox are in the wildcard. There is a possibility they will play the Yankees in New York… would love to see that matchup!
In regular season games, the Sox have won 9 games, the yankees have won 4 times.

Yes, Yankees and Red Sox will play in a wildcard game; that has been established.

Happily Cleveland has pulled off winning the division and, just like last year, will be the third seed and play Detroit in the first round. Last year it was the same thing and Cleveland tossed out Detroit in 5 games. 6 out of their final 9 games this year Cleveland and Detroit played. Cleveland won 5 of the 6 games including sweeping in Detroit. Cleveland and Detroit will play each other in the first playoff round. I hope that history repeats. ;)

And Cleveland does a walk off win in the 10th inning with a 3 run homer. It is official in that they have made the biggest season comeback in league history coming back from being 15.5 games back to win the division.

Love or hate the team you have to respect what they have done.

<edit>
Oh, I should add that Cleveland went 18-6 in September to pull this off. Nice time to peak. ;)

The Yankees Red Sox rivalry resumes at 6pm today on ESPN. 3 games will take place in New York. Should be a fun watch.

And Cleveland lost to Detroit 2-1 in an awesome pitching duel. Cleveland lost in an unusual way with how good they are at defense. Both Detroit runs were unearned. :(

Fasten your seat belts:
Red Sox, Yankees games starts at 6 PM (ET) on ESPN.
This season, the Sox have won nine of 13 head-to-head games against the Yankees and outscored them by a margin of 66-51. In games played in the Bronx -- where the entirety of this series will take place -- the Sox went 5-2.

LOL! Since, as I've explained, it is part of my job to hate both the Yankees and Sox. Can we come up for a way for both to loose? :rofl:

Just teasing @Fishmanic so don't go getting me banned. ;)

I don't get it! ESPN is supposed to be showing the Sox/Yankee game but are not. :dunno: At least in my area the game is not on TV; I'm just getting the radio broadcast through streaming.

<edit>
Found the game video but had to go to streaming from my cable. The broadcast for the game is not on the local cable box. :dunno:

I’m getting it on hulu live tv streaming.
Yankees draw first blood with a home-run by 24 year old Volpe in the 2nd inning.

Eventually I'll be done with cable and will be going strictly streaming through a new, to the area, internet outfit named Blue Peak with a lot faster fiber optic connection for quite a bit less money. Problem is that my apartment building is not wired for fiber. Should have already been wired but the lady management person, not the actual apartment manager, that was dealing with Blue Peak got fired so it all had to start over for some reason.

On the other hand, since Spectrum has added just about all, if not actually all, of the streaming services I d0 at no additional cost it MAY just end up cheaper for me to stay with Spectrum as I could then cancel my streaming subscriptions. Then again, with my distrust of Spectrum, I doubt that the streaming access will last long as to being free.

Regardless, there is nothing much I can do until the building ends up wired for fiber optics.
