120 litres, 48x15x12 26.6 uk gallons or 31.3 us gallons

8 silvertips, 3 x-ray tetras, 2 guppies, golden spotted pleco, leopard danio, 2 red honey gouramis (1 male, 1 female).

That is what I have in my tank at the moment. I could follow the inch of fish per gallon rule but are we talking us gallons or uk gallons.

I worked out last night ( I think) that by uk gallons I might be on the limit. because i was using the projected size of what the fish will grow to.

I want to add 6 neons or something similar. Can it be done or will I be overcrowded.

I would say your tank is stocked to its limits, but not overstocked if you have powerful enough filtration for the tank.

Surely they'd be space for a small shoal of neons. I heard they don't put any real strain on the tank?!

Or maybe a few more x-ray tetras?

or I could take some out and put them in my 14 gallon with my male betta and get a clown loach.

but I posted a post the other day about tank mates for bettas and I am not sure if the fish I have will be compatible.

If you keep up the water changes/vac very good, and have a good filtration, I would think you could add a small school of neons. But sinceyou have only 1 leopard danio, and they like to be in small schools too, I'd add a couple more of them before I add anything else.
That's just my opinion, though, so do with it what you want. :D

Edit: I wouldn't put neons with a betta - they're very nippy IME. If you rehome/return the danio instead of building up that group, you would certainly have room for some neons.

Clown loach should really be kept in groups and need something in the order of 100 gal so thats a no-go i'm afraid. :/

danios aren't very colourful though are they. :/

I have filtration for a 50g in the tank at the mo.

I think the filtration would be great. Danios aren't very colorful, but they are very active and fun to watch. I happen to really like the zebra danios myself. If you're wanting color though, I'd return the danio you have, and get either neons (though they are sensitive and need a mature tank) or get some cherry barbs (one of my favs). They are not agressive, but are a beautiful red color, esp the male. You could get a trio of them (1m, 2 fm). If you want the look of neons though I'd go for cardinals instead. They look almost just alike, other than the stripe is longer on the cardinal. The cardinals are a little hardier, too, I think.

You could also check out Praecox (dwarf) rainbow fish aka dwarf neon rainbow fish. They only grow to a couple of inches and are stunning looking, non-aggressive fish. You could get a small schoal in your tank comfortably.

So I do have a wee bit of room for a small shoal of something then. But there are loads of fish to look at aren''t there.

Cheers for the info folks.
