Would You Trust This?

Ok looks like i may have saved 5...although they are still very weak, because my tank is so empty i went and grabbed a few Tapajo earlier, so its busied up a bit now :)

"they were in a small bag with about 2" of water and no air blown in to the bag, for 12 2" rotkeils....probably why it stunk of urine. "

OMG THATS SO SO SO BAD. Did the bag leak ? Or was the guy just an idiot?

Well 5 is still ok and if they make it then you know they are hardy fish. I'm so so sorry that's really upsetting well you took a chance and lets just keep our finger crossed the ones you have will be real beauties. You don't have a hospital tank for them to recover in? I would think it would be best to keep them in their own tank with no other fish to stress them out .

Good luck.

Down to just 3 now and they are swimming upside down etc, just pulled one off of my Koriela power head :(

Here is the package

The rest have been disposed of

I have got a small 10 gall hospital tank, but i don't think it is sufficient enough for them so would rather keep them in my main system, the fish in there...

1 x 7.5" Red Spot Sev
1 x 5" Gold Sev
1 x 4" Green Sev
1 x 2.5" Red Spot Sev
1 x 4" Blue Acara
2 x 4" Red Head Tapajo
1 x 1.5" Jurupari Eartheater
19 x 1.5" columbian and bentosi Tetras
1 x 3" Bulldog Pleco
1 x 2" Ram
2 x 5" Silver Dollars

None are fussed with them, even the dead ones they left alone before i fished them out.

On the plus side after lots of phone calls, the guy got back to me and said to me he will send me 12 more next week, i told him this time he should tape the edges of the bags and split them into multiple bags with more water and for there to be some air!!!!

I still think you should put them in the 10 Gal its fine keep up the WC. After that traumatic ride I would want to be in my own bed room till I felt better. Your over fish being around will add extra stress I know how Cichlids are when a new fish is added. They like to check it out. but your new fish are in no state to be dealing with that.

Good luck you might want to send him this info. Shipping is an art I have been reading up on.

Shipping Fish.
Preparing the fish is the more important part.

1 Do not feed 2 days before shipping.
2 do a few more WC changes leading up to the big day. This way the water they are travelling in will be cleaner. Or just use fresh treated tap water. Whatever make sure its FRESH CLEAN WATER for the trip.
3 Get TALL bags that you can ask for some from any pet shop that sells fish. Get extras to double bag them. house hold bags don't work well. The tall bags have more room for air, and if they are on their sides or straight up the fish still has room and water.

4. Give every fish their own bag.
5 Each bag should be no more than 1/3 full of water or Make sure the fish is covered 2-3 inch over its highest point with water. Pump the bag with regular air or oxygen, then twist and tie it closed. You can use a rubber band to secure the tie.
6 Use Styrofoam shipping box. once a fish is placed inside the foam box, pack it with news paper Or other soft stuff like bags of air, socks, Styrofoam packing bits so the fish doesn't bounce around.

Also take note of weather and how long fish will be bagged. Use heat packs 2-4 that will last as long as you need them NEVER place heat pack under or on the fish bags. Heat packs should be taped too the sides away from the bags.

I hope it goes better next time.

trust me, the other fish are not going near them, otherwise i would set the other tank up.

I have a small house with 4 kids and have no room to put the 10g, that's why its not set up, and that being said, i don't have a spare heater now anyway because the spare one is in the main display.

i would rather them be in my mature large aquarium which gets 50% WC every week than in a 10g box.

The larger Severums seem to be guarding them but not bothering them at all, not even the corpses of the other fish before i removed them.

In all honesty, even in there own tank, i don't expect them to live till morning anyway, which is sad.

Roll on next week when i get my next batch.

hope the next batch is ok the weathers supposed to be seriously cold for the next 5-6 days though so i hope he packs them up well for you this time

The trouble of getting a Rotkeil Sev heh..... lol

Knowing my luck I'll find them in a lfs dirt cheap next week...

If it doesn't work out this time, i may settle for a Heros Appendiculatus, they have them in the LFS, and they look similar to Rotkeils, if not as pretty.

Aww man that is gutting :( hope the rest comes in okay. Are the other 12 coming in free of charge?

Really sorry to read this, its why I wont post fish. I hope the others make it ok.

If it were me, Id want a full refund, rather than putting anymore fish thru that horrible ordeal. Clearly the guy has no idea how to ship fish and isnt bothered by their welfare.

I agree. Just get your money back and wait for a good deal on some.

Refund is not a option guys, trust me i want my money back :(

None survived from the last batch :(

I just got off the phone to him asking when he will send the others out and he said he dont know..... god i am never trusting anyone to send me fish again after this.
