Go for the clown loach! I believe convicts can hold their own, atleast a male, against an oscar. As for a clown loach and BGK Id go for that. With that setup you could get some peaceful cichlids.

Yea but I definately want an oscar. I think I will get the oscar and maybe some more peaceful cichlids so the oscar will feel as he owns the tank and that there isn't really any competition.

:( my oscars killed a male convict i was not im at the time the babysitter told me the oscar just filped and tore it apart convict are a  with a oscar imo

Well I think I will stick with an oscar and blood parrot. I will get them when they are both small so maybe that will help things out a bit. :dunno:

i say get a blue acara as atank mate at the moment im trying a male jag and what think is the female oscar out of one of my friends tank alls well so far 3 days

I think a severum, an Oscar, and a blue acara would work. Sevs are really not aggressive or territorial. Mine wont even eat my Glowlight tetras.

In my 112g I have my 2 oscars (8" and 5") and a male convict (4")...I used to have a blood parrot (4.5") and a gold sev (5.5") which are now in my 90g with my female convict (almost 3") and a juvi JD (3")..[Ah sorry for all the sizes ] In a 120g, You could easily pair an oscar with any of these fish, if not maybe 2...
-Severums are beautiful, my gold male is soo peaceful, but a little shy (unless he's with my bp [his best friend that he grew up with]) so i can see why some people have problems with them being with oscars.
-I have heard JD's can match an oscars temperment, and they are really colorful when they are full grown.
-Convicts are pretty fast growers (I added mine to the tank when he was maybe 2" and he definately held his own against the 2 o's.
-With blood parrots, I believe their attitudes is influenced by what fish they're raised with, and how much RD is in their blood. At my dentists office, they have a large tank (not sure what size) with 2 bps, and angels, and rainbows. Mine had been raised with the severum, but also a blue acara and a texas in a 55g (got the bp and sev off of someoen), so he is a little more aggressive, i'm sure he really had to stand up for himself in that size of a tank with those fish.

Why not go with 2 oscars? I have an albino tiger, and a tiger so that it at least adds a bit of color...

i heartily agree with this. My sev is very friendly and peaceful.

A JD could definately match up with a oscar. Mine is really cool because it changes colors all the time.

If u raise a BP with an oscar it would probly be more aggressive than if it were raised with angelfish

I have an oscar and a ghost knife in the same tank....never had a problem with them, they grow about the same length so I dont think the oscar will kill it

my bad I said mine was a ghost knife...It's actually an african knife

BP are basically docile. Most of them have deformed mouths and can not bite down. They how can they bite? If they hit another fish with their buts, well that can be true!

WTF

She's actually going with a Ram Community I believe.

I dont think all the nasty things some say about Oscars are true. They will eat any small fish which isnt defensive. Other than that, they seem to get along with everything!

It all depends on the fishes personality in the end.

Yea I will be picking up a few rams today and some ghost shrimp and glass cats (maybe) I will probably just get the rams and the shrimp for now. I don't want to overload my tank. I may end up getting discus in the far future...but that is a MAYBE. So now it is going to be a ram community.

When I was young I always thought Oscars were highly aggressive. But that was because I raised a community (4-5) of Oscars in a 55Gal tank. Sure by the time they were 10+ inches long they had killed off everything in the tank. Not because they are such mean fish, but because I was such an ignorant fish keeper!

Unfortunately many people do such things with Oscars. A small lack of education can cause a major impact on others (that goes beyond fish keeping too!). I've also raised many Oscars and have found that small groupings (3-5) get along well if they aren't overcrowded which is contrary to the 'experts' advice.

Oh... by the way... when you get your Rams all situated you aughta have us over for dinner so we can see the tank... there couldn't be but a few hundred of us that read this board on a daily basis... I'll bring the potato salad!
