Who Gives Names To There Fish?

It's been moved. Some of my bettas were named for characters in Wagner's ring cycle.

Trying not to be sexist or anything but just pointing out that its mainly women replying to the post

I think its probably us men that just wont admit naming our fish, but when the women aint around I bet all the blokes talk to their fish and have names for them.

I know my dad does. When he thinks no-one is around the first thing he does is go to the tank and say "hello ickle fishies. Who's good ickle fishies?"
It makes me and my step mum laugh.

I had to start naming my fish after my wife started to call my two silver sharks. I mean Fergal and Sharkey!!??
I've managed renamed them now after I threatened to start calling them Frik and Frak.
Now I guve them all names before the wife can.
Oh and my eldest named his fish Mr and Mrs Fish!!!

My cousin had a couple of fish years ago, he thought he was a comic naming them;

Fried
Battered
sauteed
Boiled


..............they only last a year

I have named some of my fish but I like to take my time choosing a name so the others will have to wait

Some are named by there colour others by there character some after tv/film characters and other names because they just seem Wright.

I currently have a LOT of Goldfish (50+) and some of them have names:
Mamma Bear (largest and mum of the majority)
Sparky (smallest)
Mortiis (gold tench)
Hercules (he went to live at college lol)

I don't think any of the others have names lol. Its mostly just the ones that stand out from the crowd.

Don't think ill be able to tell the difference between my tropical fish so i think i will just name the Apple Snail i plan on getting

ok here goes, so far i got 2 balloon mollys, 3 black mollys and 3 pretty silver mollys.

The Black Mollys are called, Nash, Hall, Xpac in a team they are called The Band.

The Silver Mollys are called Madison, Velvet Sky, Lacey Von Erich as a Team they are called The Beautiful People

and the 2 Balloon Mollys are Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin as a team they are called The Motor City Machineguns.

Im sure some of you will see the pattern , for those that dont, tune into SpikeTV on a Monday at 8PM (USA) or Bravo on a Saturday night 9PM (UK).

im getting some more fish tomorrow, whos joining the Roster.......find out tomorrow.

Guilty ! - some of them have names - others like the x 10 serpae tetra and the x 12 cardinal tetras you cant name cos you cant tell them apart!

My male BN plec is called Desperate Dan after a UK cartoon comic book character who has stubbly bristles and the female is called Wanda after the film 'A Fish called Wanda'. My male krib is called Stan and the female Hilda after 2 famous soap opera characters Stan and Hilda Ogden in Coranation Street, and my 3 Panda corys are named after the 3 musketeers!

1x bn plec called freckle
3x silver angelfish one is called stripe (boring i no lol) and the other two are vertigo and uno this bing he only has the 1 stripe
also have 3 bolivian rams and 5 corydoras i yet need to name

Haha....love the thread and loved reading all the comments! I amazingly name all my fish and can remember their names. Maybe I'm just weird. I especially love to give absurd celebrity names to them.

My fish that got me into the fish hobby were 2 (rather unattractive) male and female guppy named Shrimp and Grits.

My fave guppy brothers were named Heath and Hugh (Heath Ledger/Hugh Jackman) Ironically, Heath died before Hugh and I had Hugh longer than any of my guppies! He was my last before I had to find a new fish to keep my hobby alive.

To date I have:

Sweeney -HM Betta
Mad Hatter -HM Betta
Strawberry -Er...female betta?
Spot, ZigZag, and Jaws -3 asst. danios I took to work in a 1 gallon bowl. Have had them since Feb/March 2009
Hilton (paris hilton) -albino bristlenose catfish

My brother has in his room a couple fish with names I forgot (Optimus Prime?)
And one of my sole surviving tiger barbs who is mostly black (Tiger Woods...hehe)
And he has a phantom tetra named Phantom

My other brother has 2 tetras a serpae and some other one in a bowl (don't ask about their living conditions...they've been in the bowl pushing a year too...) and they have names from the Transformers movie too.

I love names for fish!

I've got a red betta named Attila "the Fin", 3 albino corys named Ed, Edd, and Eddy (a rambunctious trio from a cartoon), and two snails that my mom has named Slip and Slide. I considered naming the betta Ahab, the cories Starbuck, Stubb, and Flask, and the snails Ishmael and Queequeq (Moby Dick, anyone?). But after calling them by their old names for so long I couldn't rename them if I tried.

The only thing keeping me from naming my neons is I have so many and they're all identical except one. I don't even know how I'd keep track of 9 more names

All of my fish have names, except my guppies - well even then they have names. Guppy 1, Guppy 2 and Guppy 3 lol. I ran out of names and I wasn't sure I'd be able to identify them separately.

My only pets who don't have names are the shrimp but they are all called "shrimp".

My birds are all named after cowboys (although I ran out of names for the last two)

I had Jamie and Jessie (Jessie James), Cassie (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid), Ziggy (Ziggy Stardust) and Ozzy (Ozzy Osbourne) lol
