White Spot?

what causes it? i have had my tank running for now 6 months + and have not added new fish for over a month and suddenly i got white spote this morning on one of my clown louches

i have treated the fish and that isnt the problem but i just wondered what the causes were ?

Clown loaches are susceptible to the Ich parasite, which can often be in the tank but not infect a healthy fish, however, if a fish becomes stressed its immune system is lowered and can then be infected. Water quality problems could cause the stress, harrassment from other fish etc.

ok i have checked all the water levels and they are fine

could be another fish


also could it be that i have changed the fish food (silly question i think) ?

No food wont do it, unless of course, he isnt eating it and becoming overly hungrey which again would cause some amount of stress and lower the immune system.

whats your temperature in the tank

rise to 81f for a few days and treat
with a laoch friendly white spot treatment
a lot of the are not tolerant to normal white spot remover

my temp is 28 atm and i have the white spot treatment ready and just started the couse of treatment

4 days i think ?

Follow the instructions on the meds and make sure you complete the treatment.

Don't worry too much, ich can be like a cold and just randomly appeared. I got it and the water was fine and I hadn't added anything or fed live food for 2 months. But after treating properly it cleared up fine and I didn't loose a single clown loach
