the fluval 04 and 05 range is crap, they are renowned for leaking i think only 2 members on here actually say theyre good
Truck I you need to stop being so opinionated on things you have little or no experience with :).

It's fine reading up on things on the forum and forming your own opinion (and it is very helpful to share it with people who have no idea), but try not to put it across so strong, especially when you make statements that clearly are not the case ;).

puppyjess123- Aquaclear HOBS get great reviews, and seem very good, however I wouldn't recommend you get one unless you happen to have an LFS that stocks them.

This is just because HOBs aren't very popular in the UK, and spare parts and such are going to be hard to come by (though I've seen HOB's by Eheim and Azoo in UK stores and websites).

TBH, I think the new Fluval U series internal filters are more effective than HOB's anyway.

External canister filters are better IMO too, just more expensive. If you choose an external, don't worry too much about the brand - my advice is just to avoid super-cheap brands like Resun and Jebo (which are mainly bad copies of other filters) unless you really have to and are prepared to repair any problems yourself (

Go for whatever big-brand (Eheim, Fluval, Tetratec, Rena, JBL...etc) filter that suits you price range and is rated for you size of tank, then look after it well
. That means lubricating the O-rings with Vaseline or other suitable lubricant and cleaning the impeller relatively frequently.

If you do this, it's very unlikely anything will go wrong regardless of what brand you choose - and if something does go wrong, these companies are usually very supportive and will send you out free parts and such.

Eheims are simply more expensive because their Classic and Pro models have a reputation for running for ages, and sometimes putting up with more abuse. But that in no way means the other brands are bad and wont serve you for years if you look after them :good:. If you can afford a decent Ehiem, go for it,but there's nothing wrong with going for another brnd :).
