Yeah. I've got a little 30ish litre tank that is housing 4 ellioti babies at the moment and am itching to get some. Just don't want to pay shop prices and was thinking if you had a few spare then we could have done a swap or something. Nevermind. How are your rams now after a few hours?

Ah right, #41#### :(. I would of if it was still setup mate!

I will be setting it up again once I've finished my main tank in the living room. Will be breeding / selling shrimp again. Some good money to be made if you get the setup and breeding correct :good:.

Rams are looking ok this morning, just got back from work lights are not due on till 3:50pm so i'll see if they want some food then and let you know :good:

I'd be intrested in one Ellioti for sure. But costs of posting? :\

What are other names for them, I'll check my LFS see if they have any going.

I'll be having x2 Angel Fish, 2 Bolivian Rams and 12 Cardinal Tetra by Wednesday. Just need to get another 6 Cardinal Tetra and get rid of my Livebearers. Should be all sorted by Wednesday though.

Then on the hunt for more new fish :good:

P.S - Also brought 100g of this Prima Red? food today :good: should get that by Tuesday :).

glad u didnt go with the rainbow cichlids, as like stated, they terrorize plants. im sure some individuals are worse than others, but ive had to take out a few of my favorite plants to keep them from being completely destroyed. the fish get a kick out of ripping out any flowing or thin stemmed plant in my tank :(

If wharf is only an hour away mate then you would probably be better collecting? They don't really have any other names i don't believe.

My Rainbows have a very basic tank for the time being... :p

After hearing so many people say they have been ripping plants up I just didn't want to risk all my plants being destroyed! Saying that my Angels like to have a nip at some! Have to walk up to the tank and they stop... looking at me to say "I'm doing nothing wrong here! Go away!"

Do you drive? Could meet half way? :p

very interesting reading :)

I'm currently planning my 48" tank...steering towards an American Dwarf Cichlid community

The thing you need to remember with dwarf cichlids is that most of them want to occupy the bottom third of the tank so you may not be able to fit in as many as you think. With plenty of sight line breaks and set out territories then you may succeed.

thanks for the info
my tank is half plants and half bogwood (5 decent sized bits intertwined) and will be adding some rocks to form caves (before fishless cycling is complete)

I'm thinking (thoughts only at this stage) perhaps a Ellioti (if I can find one), a Ram and a keyhole Cichlid (individuial fish)...do they sound like they'll be ok together with you guys? along with an Angel or two?

all feedback is good feedback

Sounds like a good combination mate. Are you looking at a Bolivian Ram? Other Rams will need a higher temperature than the Ellioti and Keyhole. Where abouts are you? I have some Ellioti babies and you would be welcome to one. :)

just looking and making notes at this stage so yes a Bolivian Ram would be on my list along with a Keyhole and a Ellioti :)

thank you for the kind offer, I am in Berkshire :)

Shame mate, i don't fancy posting and by the time you have forked out for it then it wouldn't be worth it. :( Also consider a Honduran Red Point. The males are powder blue with stunning orange fins and the female is smaller and almost neon blue. Very attractive fish. I would say Rainbow Cichlids but if you're planning on adding plants then these probably wouldn't be the best option. 2 Angels would look very good, especially if you got some interesting ones such as koi, blushing koi, blue or platinums.

I see you are in Nottinghamshire, I do head up that way every now and then. so it wouldn't be out of my way to pick one up sometime :)

thanks for the fish recommendations...all notes are being taken and will pop along to my local fish store (maidenhead aquatics) at the weekend and see what they stock or what they can get to order
