Which Cichlids Are Best For Me?

What would it leave in your tank though if you rehomed the community fish? You may want to add some sort of dither fish, maybe a group of Emperor Tetra's which will deal with your ph better and add a nice contrast.

If I got rid of them I would be left with x6 Harlequin, x4 Cardinal Tetra (will want to up these to 15?) and x2 Rummy Nose Tetra (not sure if I should get rid of these, or up them to 10?) I'd be well over stocked though?!

I would stick with the Harlequins and Cardinals and rehome the 2 rummynoses as you would need to buy a few to up the numbers. You could add a smaller number of Cardinals for the time being to help them feel a bit more settled. Are you fancying keyholes or bolivian rams more?!

I think I'll do that!

I like the look of the bolivian rams more than the keyholes, but wouldnt mind a few of both if this is possible?

What this Red Ram? Looks like the Blue Ram but Red  seen three of them today at one of the LFS.

Unsure mate tbh, never heard of the Red Ram. I know the blue has a few synonyms such as German Blue Ram, Blue Ram, Butterfly Ram etc etc etc lol. They're the ones that require the higher temperatures. I would love a pair of Bolivians also. I would go with one or the other mate as they will probably occupy the same area of the tank. Have you seen the Jade Eyed Cichlids?

I think I'll go with Bolivians too. With my tank being 190L, what do you think to 6 Herlaquins, 10-15 Cardianl Terta, 4 Bolivians?

I haven't seen the Jade Eyed Cichlids, my LFS dont sell many :(

What about your angels? I would go with 4 Bolivian rams too and try and get 2 from 2 different sources if you can. If you do end up with too many males you can always rehome one or two of them if a true pair forms.

Jade eyeds are nice also, but the bolivians are more colourful. I have a 'pair' that's not a pair and they're really nice. Just hoping they pair eventually. Never had rams but would love some. How about ellioti? I have 4 juvies that are about an inch big....

I have a good mix of dwarf cichlids in my 190L. Have a look at my stocking in my profile.

I also have a Sajica/Jade Eye Cichlid who would do well in there long term, but mine is now in my 180g at barely an inch and bossing everyone around - it's hilarious! Ballsy little devils!

Apistos are fine at pH 7.5, as I have an Apisto and that's my pH. Also got a Bolivian Ram and a Keyhole. You'd do well with a few Keyholes. I wish I had got more when mine was smaller, as he probably wouldn't accept baby ones now, but can be shy on his own. He is better now I have a load of Rainbowfish in the tank though.

Totally agree. :good:

Don't confuse Sajicas with JE's though... ;)

Ellioti? Never heard of that one  Oh yes I forgot about the Angels! Would keep them too.

I'm off fish shopping again some time today so I will have a look :)

They get to about 6" and are related to the firemouth. The fish in my avatar is mine. They're not bad as a centrepiece fish. Very attractive.

So let's see: Keyholes Cichlids, Bolivian Rams and Ellioti with two Angel Fish in a 190L. How many of each before I'd be over stocked?

With my Cardinal Tetra too , I'd have to re-home everything apart from the Angels I'd guess?

It all depends on what way you want to go. You could just add a pair of Bolivian rams and keep your harlequins and cardinals. I wouldn't go for a pair of each though. Get a small group of say 4 of one species and hope for a pair to form then rehome the others.

Went to MA today with the misses and came home with two Bolivian Rams :D!

I will get a pictures up in a seccond, it's from my iPhone (best camera I've got so it will be poor!)
