Whats the nastiest thing u have ever seen in a LFS

Our petco had a Catfish( a big learthry one) for a while. One day it got attacked and Killed by a Oscar. That smae catfish sat in that same tank with the Oscar for 3 week's. ONly when there was nothing left did they clean it out. I asked them about it, and they said kid, this is how nature work's, get over it.

 Well I hope none of my fish shipments go through that airport. Also this thread is old ;) .

Worst thing I have seen in a LFS would be plecos that always have a swimbladder problem and are emaciated and unable to stay at the bottom of the tank. They come in like that to my LPS. Also medium silver dollars that have every single fin missing, popeye, and also emaciated, And also come in like that to my LPS. So yes I don't always blame to store for the conditions of the fish. I only buy fish from two stores, one gets shipments in everyday. The fish go into the tanks right away, more often than not you will see bags floating in the tanks with fish acclimating in them. The store has about 100 tanks and for the most part is really nice. I am not so harsh in this case, because dead and stressed fish can be from the stress of being shipped and acclimating them. A bunch of stressed fish may look stunning the next day.

Also I have been meaning to take some pics of my Walmart. I rarely go there, but lately every time I do I am getting more pleased with its fish section. They use to have lots of betta cups, then it went down to about 10. Last time I was there, I was amazed. Two bettas in cups and 7 had there own tanks :hyper: . One to each tank with no other fish, except some cories and plecos. And the other fish all looked pretty good with no dead ones.

Even though this is an old topic, I would like to post on it.

The worst thing I have ever seen is probably when I went to a local Petland and they had gotten a new shipment of Florida Gar. They put them in a tank that was about 10gls and the gars themselves were pushing 10". In the tank with them was this monster common pleco, which ate the eyes out of every single one and they were also COVERED in fish lice.

When I told the employee about the lice, he said that they "were being treated." Oi. Thankfully, the pleco was gone not long after that.

The Ugliest most digusting thing i have ever seen.

A Tank Full of Giant PK Female Fighters all with Rot and Fungus @ World of Water in Long Lawford.

I would have Bought the entire tank full if they were not so bad with rot.

Pet shop about an hour away from me. Manager hadn't been in there for ages (or maybe didn't care, dunno.)

All the puppies, kittens and birds were sitting in their own poo, most had no water and some containers had rotting food in them. The fish tanks were all riddled with disease. I couldn't bear to stay there very long but I noted ich, columnaris, fin rot and dropsy. The tanks were filthy, dead decomposing fish everywhere, stuck on filters, being eaten, floating etc.

A guppy with an L-bend in it, screwing through the water in convulsions, unable to swim. They wouldn't even put it down.

I've seen the throw fish in a bin/bag to suffocate instead of euthanising them humanely as well. Ridiculous - I mean, a bowl of water with a drop of clove oil lasts two days. Clove oil isn't cheap but you need so little of it that it's well worth it. You only need to anaesthetise the fish, then if you chuck it in the bin it just dies and doesn't feel anything.

Oh and I was on holiday and they had this hole in the fish tank shelf with a cup resting on it. They just chucked the dead fish through the hole into the cup. There were fish that had been there for several days, it was crawling with flies and maggots and some of the dead fish had landed on the bench and dried onto it. It was disgusting, I almost puked. Eeew.

a platy impaled on a wire-thing stinking out the filter tube.

The same shop had numerous dead fish, some of which were pretty big and being feasted on by the others in the tank. Properly disemboweled with eyes floating around the tank and their little organs everywhere. Lots of ich and some fungus. I had to stand in front of one tank to stop a little boy looking in because I thought the sight was just to distressing for kids.

The worst I have seen was in Wal-Mart they had like 25 small angels in a tank with 3 small corys most of the angels where dead and sticking to the filter it was discusting I rescued the corys though. I did complain to the manager and told him that me and my friends were going to picket the store now when I go in there the tanks are always clean and I check at least 1 a week.

This above comment and that here

Sometimes they employ those really ugly people that shouldnt even be allowed to show their faces in public, all covered in pussy boils and such

could lead to the assumption that people working long enough in pet shops become ugly faces when having seen so much ugly things day for day ...

I saw about 20 BGKS in a 5 gallon, they were going crazy attacking 2 fish which for anyone who says fish don't feel pain... these two fish looked in pain!!

I asked the guy to do something about it as they really couldn't take anymore they didn't look good so the guy grabbed a bin bag, netted them out and just chucked them in the bin!

Poor BGKs they'd been through enough without having to slowly die of suffocation
