Lol, bad spelling, or some insider I dont understand?

Anyways, I went to see the fish at Wal-Mart for the first time. My lord what a mess that was. Why does Wal-Mart even sell fish? Those pricks are trying to take over everything!

DB :fish:

You didn't seem too upset when we were there.. just with the dumb employee!

You'd kill the people at the one in F.E. though. They have a gazillion albino c. aeneus cories, all with their fins nibbled off. It's so sad.. that's there the betta cups were.
What was even worse was their lying about medicating.. they're like 'Yeah, we're treating that balloon molly tank with nox-ich!' Too bad that turns the water blue and it was clear.. or the employees that go 'I don't bloody well know!' and then fill up the bags with tap water..

What WalMart was it that they let the betta cups dry up?

I am going to do something about that. When was it, and what store?
Please share info with me, even if you have to PM me.
Bettas are near & dear to my heart.

Thanks.

AND how the hell long did they have to sit there untouched before the cups dried up? It had to have been days.

DAMN WalMart.
The only reason I ever go there anymore is to check on the fishes.

I bet Sam Walton would turn over in his grave if we threw a few crusty dead bettas in it with him, eh?

Actually most Ich medicines i have used only turn the water blue for an hour or two. Did u look at the silicone. That is how u can really tell.

Sometimes when you encounter some kid in the fish room performing a little too violently with the net it can be a bit disturbing.

Well I kno Meijer isnt a lfs but anyways yeah it was gross, there were hundreds of fish about in every tank and they would eat at the dead fish also the water looked dirty

I was once at one of the LPS around here and I saw this one fish that was obviously ill and covered in fungus - I told one of the employees that he was sick, and the guy told me "oh, he's not sick - those are just his markings!" WTH?! I just looked at this guy dumbfounded. Petland is pretty bad over here - they had an iridescent shark in one of the tanks that had been dead for a long time. The water had changed color and the area by the tank smelled so nasty, I couldn't stand it.

Well, I haven't actually seen anything all that nasty at my favorite lfs. There are occasional floaters in the tank - but the employees are mostly apologetic about that and will remove them.

But for the hell-of-it this afternoon, I tested the water my two little cory cats came home in and found the nitrate level to be WAY higher than it was even when I was fishless cycling. I have a hard time with the color chart when it gets that high, but I tested it twice and it's coming in between 80-160. Is that normal for fish store tanks??

I guess I'm kinda' particular about my water parameters. The nitrate in my tanks runs between 5-10ppm. I'm fortunate that the tap water nitrate is nearly zero. BUT, the lfs has the same water source that I have!

I must defend Petco. I worked there and its a individual thing. The fish the stores get in are usually sick and stressed, you put them in the tank and some die. If you have taken a second to look at how many tanks there are? Cleaning dead fish out of every tank is incrediably time consuming, and most employees were too busy to do it. I know how hectic it is. You are pulling out dead fish and a customer comes up and wants something and you have to stop. If the fish dept. manager is a good fish person, like ours was, then its unfair to judge by the dead fish. Its hard to get massivly stressed out fish to survive. I mean they come to the store in little tiny baggies all squished together in a small box. Sometimes they put like 20 fish in one bag. Its the suppliers that are the issue.

I work at the airport and occasionally we get fish shipments. Its worse than that. They come in a box, everyone throws the box around, sometimes falling off the plane, and it gets kicked around. The fish probably dont' even know whats going on with all the rocking.
