hi all
I'm looking for something to put in a new tank.
it is 24"L x 16.5"W x 14"H (approx 20 gallons)
I have given it a rock theme with fine gravel and sand substrate
(see pic). Lighting is subdude via 2x12" cold cathodes in white
so growing plants is not gonna happen.
filtration is via an internal sponge filter (interpet PF3 to be precise)
that has an adjustable flow, should the fish that end up here dislike it too fast.
currently has no salt but that could be added if I go down the brackish route.
I don't want to add any kind of cave structure, so cave spawners are out.

the question is what would you put in this tank? I'm open to all suggestions.

looks like a neat place to keep a Cray, they would love the gravel and rocks, add a couple of filter shrimp. a shoal of Glasscats, a bristlenose plec. if you add a few real or fake plants a couple of gurami will fit in well.

How about blind cave fish? Personally they make my skin crawl, but they would fit in well....

I mean, they would fit in with the spooky/ dark /cavey feel, obviously - I like the tank.

That's a bloody good idea! And maybe a male bristlenose plec, they look kind of freak aswell, and some amano shrimp, some people are freaked out by them.

If it had more caves you could get blind cave fish, they are tremendous to watch

I like the cave fish idea.
can anyone think of any other cave dwelling fish that would go well with them?

mm, if you do this, post pictures of it as i've been toying with the idea of a cave fish tank for a while. Just as soon as i have room enough for a proper shoal...

There are a couple of blind cave fish species though most are listed as endangered and probably not in the trade. There's also a kind newt and a water puppy or dog (proper name eludes me) that could probably co-exist as well. The newt might need dry land but the water puppy will not.

something abouth the word "water puppy" freaks me out a little

I have decided what to do with this tank.
I've added some ****** and will be conducting
an experiment with them.

don't worry it is nothing that will harm the ******.
I'll let all of you know what the secret fish are
once the expeiment is over. ;)
