tank currently houses
5 Devario apogon (hard to find in the trade), 5 Botia histrionica and one female bristle nose pleco
I plan on moving the loaches to my 42g and the bristlenose, if i can catch her, this week;
in the hopes of spawning the Devarios

Your tank could do with some catfish, cave fish and cichlids sound good too, try getting some clay plant pots on their sides in there and get one of them things where all the bubbles come up to the surface.

not so sure about the cichlids, that tanks only just over my 2ft tank *24" x 12" x 12"*
and I was told I shouldn't have cichlids.

I'd say an African Shell dweler tank, that or mabye a loach species tanks...
