a sump is for filtration as the more suface area the bacteria grows on and so on some one on here will go into more detail as the wifes nagging me to make some bottles for the babie

A sump is a tank usually underneath the main tank but connected to it

They can be used for a variety of things

In mine I have my Protein Skimmer plus miracle mud and chaeto
