Hello....you have a paroon shark aka Pangasius Saniwongsei .......

stunning fish but unfortunatly will need a huge tank mate, either rehome now or get building a big tank, they are beautiful fish and yes most fish shops sell these,most of the time even the shop staff do not know how big these boys grow....good luck..

I highly doubt they would be selling a fish that is capable of reaching 10ft in a local shop, which, by the sounds of it is not at all knowledgable.

I would think it would most likely be of the same species as the Pangasianodon gigas but most probably, one of the species that grows smaller such as Pangasius hypophthalmus (Iridscent shark) which will still be far too large for your aquarium, as they reach 1m long- http/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iridescent_shark

Basically, what we are telling you is it is one of the Pangasius family, are all of this species will grow far too large for most aquariums, and are definitely not for inexperienced fish keepers, so for your own peace of mind, and the fish's welfare (eventhough another newie will probably buy it) please return it to your shop, or give it to someone who is capable of keeping these fish, and have an aquarium, and equipment to cope with them- e.g monster fish keepers

Good greif i don't mean to sound blunt but no matter what specise or genus it is it will become enormouse, you were told this before you bought them and you are being told this now, why do you continue to convince yourself you can permanently house this fish?

I honestly believe that not even the seriouse monster keepers on this forum would have the facilities to do so. My advise is to return the fish NOW and let the shop know that they shouldnot be selling these fish at all let alone to unknowing customers.

Sorry for the rant but to me you a being very irrisponsible, please re-think your decision.

So youre going to keep them even though, you cant house them. If you let them get too big you will struggle to get rid of them. I have to say, that shop saw you coming. My guess is theyre glad to get rid of them and would refuse to take them back.

you, me and everyone else knows that regardless the minute these fish were in the lfs they were going to die. and according to google not one single hobbiest keeps these fish.

what i do with them now regardless there dead unless i put them on a plane back to thailand, or a zoo/aquatic world takes them off me which isnt going to happen

so at the moment im going to enjoy them in my tank and take care of them until i can do something with them

There are so many things i could say but not only do i get the feeling that you wouldn't listen to a word that i or ,anybody else for that matter, said but the words i'm thinking of are innapropriate for a family forum.

This thread should be a warning to anyone who feels the need for an implse purchase of a fish they know nothing about.

You are being irrisponsible and selfish, i can only hope that someone offers to give the poor things a home at an aquarium somewhere before they suffer and die.
