New to the forum and was wondering if someone could tell me if this fish is a short body flower horn. Also if you could tell me if its female or male that would be great. I'm wondering because I have this fish a eel and a placasumis and he/her is not aggressive to either of them. I was told it was a shortbody flower horn but it has no lump and doesn't seem aggressive.

If i had yo guess this guy is around 5-6" long. The eel he gets along with is a tire track eel I think about 8" long. The placo is only around 2".

No idea but the Spiny Eels are normally very placid towards fish their own size/larger (those they cannot eat) and Plecos keep themselves to themselves so it could possibly be a case of them just keeping out the way?

Hopefully someone will be able to ID him/her - very pretty :)

It looks like a random hybrid to me. It has the face of a Jack Dempsey but the body of a mixture of things so I think it's just a hybrid. I can't ID what it's a hybrid of though. I would guess there may be Jack Dempsey in their but only a guess.

As for the Pleco(is it a common/sailfin?) it should be OK and Tyre Track Eels are supposed to be placid eels anyway :)

What size tank do you have them in?

I have them I'm a 40 gallon. The eel is actually very active which is strange since I was told he would hide most of the day. The eel is around and about a lot. I wanted to get the hybrid a buddy but don't even know where to start. The plecco just hides all day except when the eel gets curious and checks him out.
The 40 gallon is their home just until I get a a new 6ft aquarium built into the wall.

Sounds good, yeah I've heard that Tyre Tracks can be quite active. I wouldn't get him a "friend" unfortunately till you know how big he will grow as if he's a hybrid and you don't know what he's a hybrid of you don't know how big he'll get unfortunately

And once he reaches full size it may be too late to add a "friends" in for him anyway as he may be so territorial that he kills anything new added to the tank

Hopefully someone will be able to identify it and I can get a breeding pair. That's my goal. The store that sold it to me labeled him as a short body flower horn for $20 and he was close to this size but compared to all the others I've seen on here he looks a little different.

100% it is a short body flowerhorn - I think the blue sheen ones are called Thai Silks but yours has some markings down the side so not sure what that is.

Aggression could come with age so watch out. As for adding other fish - they could end up claiming a full 6 foot tank so if you wanted other fish in there you might have to think again...
