as in the title, i want something peaceful (well duh its a small tank!) but this tank has trouble with bio films and algae so i was thinking 4-6 ottos, 2-4 amano shrimp 1 apple snails they will take care of the algae and i was thinking of some small fish like endlers, lampeyes or small rasboras. but do endlers breed loads?

Endlers are livebearers and will breed as livebearers usually do if you have a mixed sex group. But if you have only males ( as with any livebearer ) then you will have all the colour and none of the breeding/overpopulation problem.

how can i get just males becuase i cant tell the difference and i doubt MA will be able to

what about a betta?

im not a fan of betta's id rather have some small fish. it may become a possibility.

Pseudomugil rainbowfish. They are small and peaceful and will breed, but you won't be over-run with fry unless you want to be.
More info on Pseudomugils can be found here. Scroll down to the bottom of the page.

these look good, but where can they be bought from? and are they costly and picky of water conditions?

male endlers are the colourful ones, females are mainly gray unless crossedwith guppies. and also the males get to an inch and the females 2 inch

Some species of Pseudomugil are available from petshops that specialise in Australian and New Guinea fishes. If you can't find them at the LFS ask them to look on their wholesale lists and see if they can get them in. If they can't then check out your local aquarium society or rainbowfish society. You can usually get fish from the club members and they will be cheaper than a petshop.

what about brigitte raspboras (Boraras brigittae)

i love the look of these, a few of these and a few endlers (not the guppies!) would look great. but where can you get them from??????? i want something that will eat algae but ottos arent very hardy but i may have to plump for a few

the brigitte are really skittish and might not get on with the endlers though you could try
maidenhead aquatics can order these for you

as for the algae what about shrimps and snails , amanos , cherrys and a couple of apple snails also quite heavily plant the tank thats how i got rid of the algae build up in my 30 ltr before turniong it into minnow breeder/quarentine/hospital
i also completely blacked out the back and part of the sides of the tank

i have blacked out the back and sides. well i did have shrimp untill i killed them with easy carbo   i didnt realise what was in it and i did masses of water changed but it didnt make a difference becuase it was already 'in their system' how much are they from MA? how big do they get? what could i have them with? maybe some other micro rasbora? what about lampeyes?

Endler males are really brightly coloured little things. Females are just dull. You can't make a mistake.

cool thanks. i want to find out more about these brigittes

Hi, Nick16,
just wanted to point out that Endlers really are a type of guppy, which is why they can interbreed interchangeably.
It's apparently hard to say how many pure tankbred Endler strains are actually commonly sold in petstores, at least around here, as this has occurred to such a degree.
Mine are a definite cross, the result of a lucky 'feeder guppy' buy - I personally like them better than Fancy guppies, in part because they are so much smaller.
But I did find it necessary to split up into different tanks my cross-bred males, which would otherwise harass the heck out of each other, which I hope isn't likely in Endlers generally.
And the more pugnacious ones tended to, at least initially, persistently display to other, bigger fish, who generally politely ignored them, which might not be the case if this occurred with shy and tiny fish such as those you're considering.
I have heard that Endlers don't tend to behave quite like that, but thought I'd better mention just in case.
If you are seriously considering getting some to keep in with what I've heard are easily intimidated Boraras brigittae, perhaps some of the many Endler keepers on the forum will by then have commented on their compatability.

i realise endlers may be off the list and might stick to micro rasboras.
