What are you doing today?

A great day in The American West today . Got my run in on a beautiful spring like 55 degree day , went and got groceries and sorted out all my old mail . Sound boring or ordinary ? I suppose it could be but it’s nice to revel in a day of everyday routine without distraction or hurry .

February is "watch out" month for weather on the Canadian East Coast. It can get nasty. But as summer ends in late August, we get hot days and cool nights. I choose to believe we're entering a beginning, as we have the same, relatively. It's getting to around freezing by day but sitting at -15 when I get up in the dark morning. The temperatures will dive, and this is always temporary, but winter's back is broken. Only, oh, 2 more months of cold... maybe 3!
I have truly run a lot of my aquarium equipment into the ground. In the last two weeks, a 10 year old led strip has failed. Two over 15 year old aquaclears are stopping and starting randomly, and the impeller shafts are beyond replacement. One unnamed Chinese HOB has died - the last of a box full I bought also more than 15 years ago.
So today, I am expecting the arrival of a few new HOBs. Lychee brand. I tried a purchase 2 weeks ago to check them, and since they seem good for the 20 gallon tanks I'm going to use them on, I am now adding. All my tanks HOB have 2 systems - air driven as well. I'd love to have bought locally, but where fish stores used to make their money on dry goods, that's no more. With competition from online, they don't offer much variety.
This'll put my mind at ease because I'll be away for just under 2 weeks next month, and my wife is not going to be asked to fix and restart filters or feed fish. I'll switch over media, fire them up and have exactly a month to see how they do.
I've moved or restarted a bunch of tanks. I have six top rack 10 gallons for possible Epiplatys and Aphyosemion killies, a 20 if I catch Poropanchax luxopthalmus killies, 3 10s planted and running for whatever surprises me, and 3 larger tanks for possible Pelvicachromis taeniatus dwarf cichlids. When I get home, I'll have been in airports from 4am on day one to early afternoon on day two, and I'll be tired. Last time, I lost a pair of fish to being too tired and leaving a cover ajar. This time, I'll be better prepared.
28 days to go. I hope I actually catch more than a cold. I don't think I can sneak a herd of giraffes in my luggage. They'd probably confuse the deer out back anyway.
The last of the vaccinations today.

I'm not sure about the logic of this, but a local auto parts chain is selling off pallets of 20 gallon/75 litre tanks at a price about 1/3 of any other regional store. They're solid, sturdy tanks with decent glass and apparently well done silicone. They've been reboxed to be no name, but whoever went out of business and had sell these tanks cheaply had many hundreds of them, as each store in a large chain has a pallet full.
I now have three stacked in my fishroom, to replace some of my very old aquariums.

I don't get excited about cars, and have no idea how the dots connect, but if auto places start selling me three tanks for the price of one, my fishroom may change. The local fish crew are descending on this store like vultures, and I predict some people will be looking for fish, plants and decor at the next fish club meeting.

Wow. Pick up three for me. I will send my helicopter to your place to get them.

That's a crime against humanity and nature.
Unfortunately I don't think that's the issue. They had people stopping by all the time for 5 minutes at a time. What do you think was going on? :big_boss:
Drugs. The 5 minute visits pretty much rules out prostitution. At a guess I'd say meth. If heroine/meth the visits would usually be short as the user 'needs' to get a needle in their arm.

If pot, the visits would, also, probably be longer. Pot smokers are just not normally in need of getting high right away. Things may be different today but, back in the 1970s, when I did some questionable things with pot, such as selling, the buyer often wanted to stay around to share a bit of what they bought. Never really cared for that as I was more like you got the stuff, go away and let me get back to what I was doing...

Due to the "5 minute" visits I have to go against pot. Heroine/meth and, of course, several opiates could be involved.

Of course drugs may not even be involved. It could be domestic violence.

I doubt it was domestic violence. They took a male and female into custody and searched the house for at least an hour.
I happened to walk outside into my porch to smoke a cigarette just as the police were entering the house, guns drawn and shouting get down! Get down!
They clearly had a warrant. My guess is 100% drugs, I'm just unsure what they were pushing. If it's meth, the male probably didn't use, he's a bigger guy and never looked strung out. Might be opiods, there are a lot of pillbillies here.

Cops may or may not have had a warrant. If the cops initially busted someone leaving the house with drugs that means probable cause and a warrant is not needed.

Why would you say that the 'male' was probably not involved due to his physical appearance? Many people use a combination of meth and steroids to increase physical bulk. The meth speeds the metabolism and the steroids promote bulk. Sounds good but is actually a major trigger for violence.

That is incorrect. Just because someone is caught in possession of drugs upon leaving someones house does not itself give police the right to enter the house without a warrant. The police are fully within their rights to arrest the person on which drugs were found and search the area immediately surrounding them, but they may not search the house.

In order to enter the house, the police would need a search warrant or a valid exception. A valid exception may include exigent circumstances(someone in danger, suspect flees inside), consent("you can enter the house"), hot pursuit may allow entry if circumstances justify it.
If the suspect enters the house and lets say they get into the entry way, the police may only search the area immediately around the suspect. A full search would be unconstitutional and subject to suppression.

The home is the core of the fourth amendment protection. In a 6-3 decision the supreme court ruled that Police may not enter a home without a warrant. Under Payton v. New York, police may NOT enter or search a home without a warrant except in the exigent circumstances that I outlined above. "Probable cause" is not sufficient.

I just finished Intro to Criminal Justice last semester for my Pre-law minor, and we covered a fact pattern almost exactly like this.

Sounds like they were doing serial karaoke with Taylor Swift and Lana Del Ray songs. Definitely grounds for arrest.

I just finished the last class of "Bring a Grownup To Music Class" days. Whew. Feels like I just did ten concerts in three days. But totally worth the energy. It was a great time. The only thing more fun than seeing kids' faces light up in music class is seeing their parents' faces light up in music class. :)
