What are you doing today?

I just fell into the swamp that is watching reels, and saw an excerpt from an unnamed war movie about WW2 in the Pacific. It was a submarine full of 1950s looking guys, but it was the shots of the submarine being hammered with depth charges underwater that I liked. They were sailing through Anacharis plants, in what must have been a large freshwater aquarium for the time. Someone had put quality work into the submarine model, but the set was a touch shakier.

Or, back in the day, the aquarium hobby wasn't for the faint of heart. Depth charge the snails!

I depth charged some goldfish one time...but that story might get me banned. Or at least severely unpopular. It wasn't my proudest fish keeping moment.

DuPont lures huh ? Reminds me of the punchline of an old joke . “ you going to fish or just sit there ? “

I've just re-siliconed one side of a 12L tank I made a while back. It's been sitting in my room collecting dust for a while. In the meantime, I'm pondering over potential ideas for its use..

Been looking at trailers for the new 'How To Train Your Dragon' movie. This happens to be probably my favorite animated movie as to the original. The new movie is just a total remake of the original as far as I can see from the trailers but with a mix of real people and animation. Of course this can be done well as the Movie Avatar proves. I hope that it proves to be good.

I won't go to a theater to see but will wait to August when DVD/Blu-ray releases are expected. Shoot, I haven't gone to a movie theater since the initial Jurassic Park movie or it may have been Sea Of Love. I have a 55 inch screen about 8 feet from where I sit and pretty awesome sound. Turn off the lights and I, pretty much, may as well be in a theater.

I don't see why they would even need to do a live version if its literally going to be the same movie.

I've noticed in the last few years that older films are being remade. There mustn't be much magic left in the writing bottle anymore

I agree but will have to see. Film makers seem to have forgotten how to be original so just re-do older movies. This has been going on for MANY years. There have actually been copyright suites on this. Take the movie Avatar... It is a direct copy of the OLD animated movie, Fern Gully.

BTW, if you like animated movies check out Strange Magic and The Last Unicorn.

I was REALLY concerned for what how the live action would damage the movie as httyd is what I grew up with. It's one of my favorite movies. But they actually did a REALLY good job with it. Some minor things I wish they made different decisions on, but overall it was really good and they kept the heart of it alive

I agree with this. I wish we got more originality. It all feels like it's on repeat rn

Sometimes it's really cool to see something animated in live action. I just feel like some things with it are being overdone, and when it's done, it's done badly, so it gets a bad rep.

The red death in the new httyd movie was done perfectly imo.

NEW PROJECT

I'm glad you moved it from over from its accidental placement in the other thread. I was trying to figure out how to install Corydoras whiskers on a car. Now that would be a project!
It would look cool.
