I'm still curious as to the size of the inlet holes. Since the layout is dual sided, with the intake opposite of the output, the inlets need to be able to supply, in essence, 1 1/2 inch of transfer tubes; 3/4 inch PVC X 2.

There are two inlet tubes, 3/4" PVC, with the ends open and a couple dozen holes drilled in the sides, covered with course sponge inlet covers.

Thrilled and bummed.

For the first time I tried something with my cichlids; hand feeding. Didn't work but think it will. At feeding time I didn't give their normal feed but held a meal worm in my fingers. They charged to the worm but would shy away from my hand. Still they DID approach. I think it will just take some time for them to associate my fingers with something good to eat. Of course, after the test, I fed as normal.

I've tried it both ways, and haven't noticed a huge difference. With fish and shrimp in the tank, I'll have to run it with sponges, so I'm just setting it up that way so I don't get my expectations too high.

I made a modification that is less elegant than the original setup, but should work fine and give me a lot more flow. Waiting for the glue to dry now.

I have my fishroom divided into sections. I have a whiteboard where I note water change days, as I realized I was misjudging my timing. I normally do 2 sections a day in winter, because the tap comes out between 4 and 7c, and the hot water gets overwhelmed fast. A sign of Spring is that today, in one run, I was able to do a 30, a 20, a 120 and 2 40 gallons at 25% all in one shot! 4 sections. In a few weeks, I can do the whole room in one morning, instead of having to space it out to 2 of 10 sections a day.

I will buy a screen door next week, and reinforce it against raccoons. That will give me a cross breeze in summer. The room was too hot in summer last year, and I had to use AC. But while the sun heats the highly insulated space (it has windows I need), the temps around here in summer hover around 20 to 23c most days. The harbour ends up full of cruise ships from the south escaping the heat. We have exotic weather, apparently. I just have to get that weather into a fishroom that sat at 26 last summer.

Well, I got the new waterfall glued up. It isn't as elegantly simple as the old one, but I think it will give the fishies more flow to frolic in. I'll fire it up Saturday morning and let you know. I appreciate everybody's input and encouragement! It's probably about high time I started a journal on this tank.

Just ordered a wall shelf for my tank. Think if I use large butterfly wall anchors the drywall should hold up to 20 gallons of weight plus the actual tank weight, gravel and stuff... Just kidding but I DID order shelving for the tank.

The shelving is for safety more than anything. I use dual air pumps for my under gravel filtration and right now the only place I have to put the pumps is equal with the bottom of the tank. If there were to be a power failure that my tank's battery backup could not cover it is possible for a siphon effect to occur that could put a LOT of water on the floor. With the shelving I will be able to put the air pumps above the water level of the tank removing any possible siphon effect. I could just use valves on the air lines that would not allow back flow but my understanding is that they also restrict air flow. Regardless, I would rather have the air pumps above the water level.

Here is what I ordered. Actually a key holder/shelf combo. Had to order 2 as just 1 was just a little short on width to hold both air pumps. May look like an odd choice but is perfect for this usage. A lot of the bottom section will be below the bottom of the tank's hood still leaving the pumps above the max water level to avoid any siphoning. This will make it seamless as there will be no white wall between the shelf and tank top. The 'knobs' for hanging keys is also perfect as I can use them to make loops in the power cords and air lines preventing any water on the surface of the lines due to condensation or leeching following the lines back to the pumps or electrical outlet.

Spending all day grumbling about the time change! It's a tradition with me to grumble about it. Does nothing but mess with pets, kill people (suicides rise a lot around time changes) and breaks bones when you fall off the step stool trying to reach the wall clock. Seriously it serves no purpose.

It's supposed to be for the farmers or what not... Like why can't we just be like: "Oh the sun will be coming out earlier/later and setting earlier/later". I don't see why we need the time change.

The history of the beast is sort of interesting even if it makes no sense. Most people blame the U.S. for the thing but it was actually first used in Thunder Bay, Canada in 1908. Germany and Austria were the first entire countries to use DST in 1916.

Sigh, now I'm wondering about something other than DST to confuse my day... How can I possibly have a 'Reaction score' of almost 200 higher than my number of posts? Mayhaps I don't really understand what the Reaction score actually is. Actually I really don't care but it struck me as odd.
