I got very busy in the fishroom today, shooting video. Then it started gently raining. That rain turned to freezing rain and now I could skate between the house and the garage. I hate freezing rain, something I'm sure is shared by all northern fishkeepers. It can easily knock the power out.

Nothing to do but put the wood pellet stove on and curl up with a good set of articles about lampeye killies.

Hmmm . . . some people have mentioned gardening. I better get my tomatoes going indoors here soon so I can set them out at the end of May. The seed catalogs are starting to appear in the mailbox. That’s a sure sign of spring.

I started tomatoes, hot peppers, datura for butterflies and moths, cockscomb celosia for me because they are beautiful, and am experimenting with hydroponic seed starting on the datura and peppers. Peppers take forever to germinate in the little pots for me. But I did a pot too in case hydroponic fails. All on a heat mat to speed things up.
I am resting today I think. I don't know what I'm doing, after having foundation guy here all week, it's chilly but I may go out and level some ground some more and get some wildflower seeds in an area fenced off from my dogs to prevent trampling and bee-eating.

You've reminded me I need to get some tomato seeds as the pack I have expired a couple of years ago. And this year, some decent compost. Last year I used the last of the old compost to plant the seeds and they grew very well on the kitchen window ledge. Then I used Aldi compost to pot them up in planters for outdoors and they stopped growing. I had a few tomatoes but nothing like usual. When I emptied the planters, the roots had not grown into the Aldi compost at all. It's back to Wickes this year.


It's my husband's birthday and we've spent the day with our son, his partner and our 5 month old grandson

And @WhistlingBadger, we found a store that sells elk meat, so we just got some today from them! I plan to make the Stroganoff on Monday night.
My family is really excited and I'm excited to make it!
