What are you cooking?

With some exceptions... pasta... I actually eat fairly healthy even if it does not sound like I do. Often, when I post about a protein I'm having, there is nothing else but veggie. I do a LOT of green veggies such as Brussels Sprouts and green beans.

If you don't know; when it comes to things like berries such as grapes, raspberries and black berries, the darker the color the better they are for you. The darker berries have much more anti oxidants. As an example my favorite grape is green yet red or black grapes are actually healthier. Same with raspberries, blue berries and black berries. Black and blue berries are healthier as to anti oxidants than raspberries but raspberries are not bad.

Some good information, for sure. Everything in moderation, I suppose. As I've aged, there are two things that have been the most difficult to manage. They are cholesterol and sugar. Eggs were my problem, so I've essentially eliminated them and found other sources of protein, like cottage cheese and beans. Even if you're very careful, genetics can play a part in your cholesterol number. Also the higher sugar fruits like bananas and apples. Even natural sugar in fruits can become a problem if you eat too much fruit.

I thought the latest thinking on eggs was that while they contain a lot of cholesterol, they don't raise blood LDL levels nearly as much as previously thought. I suppose, like many things, it can depend on the individual. Our big weakness is cheese. We eat meat often in small quantities.

I'm not sure I buy into the current "ton of protein" fad(?). I will not be drinking soy powders. We eat beans fairly often without issues, a few bites of tofu are ok but soy in general is not something I can tolerate. Curled into a ball of gas pains won't be part of my regular diet, lol. To each their own.

We tend to be more seasonal fruit & veg eaters. Partly due to cost but also to taste. Off season both are expensive & less tasty, meh. It's often a compromise between my preferences & my husband's. Stress is also bad for health, lol.

My husband is having his last real food before his colonoscopy prep starting tomorrow. We'll have whatever he chooses, healthy or not.
