Weather

Finished up an eventful but unfruitful hunting season tonight--went out in the desert to chase mulies one last time. Sure couldn't have asked for better weather during rifle season--cool but not cold. Bow season was both hot and rainy, with swirly squirrelly winds. It's nice to have it feeling like fall finally.

There are four seasons in Wyoming: Winter, Mud, Road Construction, and Gitcherelkyet?

Getting close to freezing here in the northeast at night. Picked my remaining tomatoes and put them on the window sill to ripen.

@WhistlingBadger Out on my bike this morning and just happened to see a group of six antelope running . For those who have never seen antelope run it is really something to see ! They are fast upon fast !

Actually the mountains shelter Sheridan from some of the worst weather. The mountains form a sort of horseshoe around Sheridan which acts like a bay off of an ocean. The hook of the mountains act as a weather buffer just like a bay in a body of water.
Sheridan Wyoming is a beautiful small town but not too small and the country around it is spectacular . You are twice blessed . You live there and have Dan’s Fish just a stones throw away .

You should have called @WhistlingBadger. He would have brought his shotgun or rifle over and caught dinner for the next year.

I would really like to meet the guy that could get within shotgun range of an antelope . Most hunters get them from great distances with highly accurate rifles and the shooting skills of a sniper .

Harder to hunt than deer for sure. Have you ever been close to a pronghorn antelope? Their eyes are HUGE, great vision.

Pronghorns are said (by those who claim to know) to have vision equivalent to a human with 8x binoculars. Based on personal experience, I completely believe it. Still, they don't have xray vision, and there are people who stalk them with bows. It's all about catching them in a spot where you can use terrain or vegetation to stay away from those amazing eyes.

Getting into rifle range isn't super hard if they aren't being pressured a lot. They know you're there, but they just don't care. Once they know that the hunt is on? Forget it!

Occasionally I'll come across a herd of antelope when I'm out trail running. The always stand there and stare at me, and I imagine them talking among themselves: "Aw, look, that human thinks he's running. Aren't they adorable when they do that?"
