I have read that you can do a large water change 1hr after you have already done a large water change. is this correct?? 50% change at a time??

im 90% sure you can -= when i was cycling sure someone said its possible

As andywg said, it is perfectly fine as long as there isn't some severely strange difference in the pH, GH & KH between the tank and tap water. But since you said in your other thread that you had been doing 50% WCs every day, the tank should be very close to tap water.

i bought a cheap petrol syphoning tube thingy (kinda like a gravel pump but its basically a pipe with valve and a thingy you pump to get the flow started) and if i ever find it im tempted to see how long it would take to fill a bucket with water. its only small so can see the bucket taking quite a while to fill so might change a bucket every evening whilst im watchin tv :)
but then, a bucket out of a 180 litre tank isnt really much. but the thought is there. might be worth a try if you have a smaller tank :D

That really depends on the bucket Mic8310. I change 20% of the water on my 120 gallon tank with 5 buckets full. 180 litres is not a big tank in my mind but it is a nice medium sized tank. You could do a 20% change with just 2 buckets full on that tank if the buckets are large ones. A siphon fills my water change bucket in about 4 or 5 minutes and it needs to be attended to avoid overflows.

If your tank is cycled, wouldn't doing 100% water changes make it uncycled?

There are no beneficial bacteria in the water. They are attached to everything in the tank but primarily, they are present in the filter and on the media. As mentioned, changing water has no effect on the bacteria colony.
