I used to do that (still do on my son's Edge!); now I arrange my decor so there's a nice rock and a patch of gravel in the corner where I put the hose for re-filling

I use buckets on all of my tanks. I siphon straight out of the window though and water the flowers and grass with it. I couldn't connect a hose from either the kitchen or shower as there's far to much going on in this crazy house for a hose going from one room to another.
I would be worried one of our kids would trip over it, especially our 3rd wee lad, he's extremely accident prone.

i use a old external filter with a 5 meter hose on the outlet so i can put the pipe in my drain to get the crap water away then when refilling i always fill my 25 litre barrels up place them out side on the way and swap the pipes over on the filter also add aqua safe to the 25l barrels outside saves adding to the tank
