Wannabe Fish Owner With Questions

Yes, its called the API Freshwater Master Test Kit and costs less than buying the tests individually. Also, it works out to less than paper strip tests because the kit goes for 160 tests or so I believe.

Ok. Thanks. I guess I picked up the wrong stuff then. Teach me to leave my list in the car. :( Thanks a lot!

Leave the car in the driveway. You can get the API master kit on line for about $20.
That is great except shipping is high. But, I guess better than hopping in the car. Too bad dh forgot to bring the other stuff I bought back to the store today. I did buy it online so eagerly awaiting. Currently I have my fishtank full of water, running the filter with the temperature high.

How is everything going with the tank so far, fshinggrl?

Hey.. thanks for checking on me. I am still waiting on my API test kit in the mail, so I haven't done anything but run the filter. Perhaps since there was already ammonia in the water this is helping! I am guessing it comes today and will test it when I can!
Thanks again! (I have yet to find a source of pure ammonia... and I'm NOT peeing in it! ;) )

There is no "pure" ammonia, as Pure ammonia is poisonous.

At you local hardware store, you can pick up like 10% ammoina or like 9.5% ammonia in the cleaning section. Then you use the aquarium calculator at the top right of this page, punch in the % ammonia you have, the size tank you have, and the desired level you want the ammonia in your tank to be(usually it is 5 ppm), then it will tell you the amount of ammonia to put in your tank is ml.

Something like this.

It will say somewhere on the bottle, what percent ammonia the solution is. There are usually 9.5% solutions and 10% solutions. Either will be fine.

Ok, thanks! I'll start a log when I get my test kit and go from there. I feel like a fish out of water.
