Baby cry about 7 weeks old question.

Hi, I’m new here! Last year we bought my grandparents' house. My grandad passed away and my gran couldn't manage anymore, so she had to go into care. They had a pond with a few goldfish. I later got a couple of free fish from a friend, and they laid some eggs. I took the eggs out and hatched them.

Right now, I have them in my house in a warm room. I have a small filter running. The water looks really green in the tank, but it’s pretty clear if you scoop some up in a cup, so I think there is a buildup of waste at the bottom.

I lost a baby fish the other day; it was one of my biggest, nearly an inch long. Today I came home and noticed that another one is struggling to swim. Is there something I can do to help clear the bottom of the container and make it healthier for them?

Welcome. I'm not entirely clear on what your situation is. To best provide some assistance I have a few questions. When you say you 'got a couple of free fish from a friend' are these also goldfish? Did you add them to the pond? How big is the pond? How big is the vessel that you are using to raise the fry? How many fry are there? Did you fill this vessel with pond water? What have you been feeding?

There are a lot of unknowns too many to comment but young fishes are esp intolerant to poor water quality. If you over feed them the food will decay and produce ammonia which is quite poisonous. Also they need to be fed frequently depending on age - at an inch it is actually fairly large and can be treated more like an adult.

Some useful information - how large is your aquarium. How often do you change the water and how do you change the water. What temperature is the aquarium. What else is in the aquarium. There are more questions that could be asked but of course can we even assume the aquarium is cycled ?
