WalMart blows....

I'm sorry if you think this is rude but why not tell them something in a PM instead of embarrasing them on here?

I stand corrected. You did call me out - I was starting to see red at the time and completly missed it.

I apologize - I just missed it.

It still makes me irate that other people are ripped on for this.
I REALLY have to go now.
Okay, be irate. Makes me furious that poeple do it. Not the fish-buying, the walking quietly out of the store, NOT getting angry, NOT telling the manager, NOT doing anything, yet acting like they deserve props for "saving" a betta. I don't think they do. If yoyu disagree, fine. But I still don't get why you're taking it personally. It just makes me want to cry for the healthy bettas that will soon be ill in WalMart, waiting for the "rescue" that only changes things for them.

Talk to me after you've read the whole thread. I'd be happy to discuss any points you'd care to, once you've read the WHOLE thing.

I go out of my way not to mention names, unless I am attaching it to a positive comment. Not saying I'm successful 100% of the time, but I do my darndest. If someone wants to discuss the topic, I'll do it here.

I'm sorry if you think this is rude, but if you dislike my topics and think I'm a troll (hmmm, who was calling names and being rude there?), why don't you stay out of my threads?

I don't expect you to stay out of my threads, and actually you're more then welcome to say what you want in here, but maybe you see the point of that last line? ;)

Just thinking about this topic makes me want to bang my head on the desk and I don't know why.
I feel your pain Wuv

What's keeping Walmart in the fish business is uninformed beginners who keep replacing their fish every time one dies. Period. Those who have saved fish from Walmart are just an insignificant drop in the bucket.
This isn't directed solely at you Synirr - but to everyone.[...]
Um... just to clarify, because I'm not sure if you're griping at me or agreeing with me (lol,) I entirely agree with what you're doing BettaMomma, and encourage you to keep doing it. When I said people who save fish from Walmart are a drop in the bucket, I meant in the context of Walmart making money and being encouraged to continue stocking poorly cared for fish... People who are vocal about the issue, like you, make a real difference :)

I wasn't saying you were rude. You should read my post more carefully when saying something back ;) I also didn't say you were a troll...I said the thread was trolling. The specific words you say about somethings are insulting to some people. Whether you think that or not is not my problem.

Can everyone on this thread just agree to disagree here and move on? Everyone has opinions, thats what makes this world so diverse and wonderful. I respect ALL of your opinions but only agree with a select few. Oh well. I got over it. JMHO

Darlin', nearly every opinion and comment anyone makes is offensive to somebody. I'm not going to spend my life worrying about everybody's feelings all the time. It's not effective. I try not to single anyone out, I treat the people and animals in my life with love and compassion, and, unlike some, I'm not afraid of a little spirited debate.

You should be glad you weren't here when we had general chat.

I actually believe that it's discussing and debating those opinions that allow us to grow, and that it is the discussion and thought you put into it that makes this world such a wonderful place.

I think this was misinterpreted by BM in reading this. She probably felt attacked right off the bat because of the topic title (figuring it was targeting folks like her) and ended up misreading it. I took it to mean that the people who support Wal-Mart are the ones who run out, buy a fish, put it in a little bowl, it dies a week or so later, so they go get a new one, rinse and repeat. I took it to mean that Synirr felt that someone who rescued a sick betta here and there were not providing financial support to Wal-Mart.

As far as the whole topic, I'm torn in two about it and understand both viewpoints. It's the immediate, individual life of one creature versus the long-term effects on future lives. I really admire the way BettaMomma goes about her rescue missions, as was mentioned, she really works at making a difference in the stores. I guess when I got my two guys, I went to the place in my town where the bettas were kept in the best conditions (in my case, PetCo), and got them. I have lodged complaints against the conditions the fish are in at my Wal-Mart, but I know I really should do more complaining, calling, and letter writing than I have to this point.

I think part of truly saving a fish at WalMart is also making some kind of scene or complaint there in front of people at the staff, then you know that you've realy contributed to damaging their sales or changing the way they do things.

I was here when we had general. There are actually still threads that highly resemble how general was...
Eitherway, I've said what I though and I agree with ladyhawke

Anyone who has read my posts about WM knows how I feel - I hate them. I hated them before I got into fish keeping and after I went in and saw their tanks in two different stores near me, I hate them even more. I have not been in a WM since January and don't ever plan to return. Will they notice that I don't spend money there - No. Will I feel better about not funding them - Yes.

As for the rescue or don't rescue issue, I have to come down on the side that if you are buying anything there, fish, tanks and accesories or even groceries, you are funding their cruelty. There are bettas and other fish mistreated at almost every major pet chain store but WM is the worst because they are not a pet store. It is only a very small percentage of what they sell. The upper management there is interested in one thing and one thing only - bottom line. If you're buying anything there, you are funding them to stay in business.

For those of you who are into rescuing bettas (and I have one that I rescued from WM the very last time I was in one) I think it is commendable but unfortunately, there will only be more to take their places. You can only buy so many and soon you too will have to learn to walk away and leave them. Sooner or later when WM starts to throw all the dead ones away every week and never sells any, they will discontinue selling fish. As long as someone is buying them, they will just bring in more. It's a simple matter of supply and demand. If there's no demand, the supply will cease to exist.

Now, I'll get down off my soap box. I've had my say about WM for this week. On a much better note, I hope everyone has a very happy, fun and safe Memorial Day weekend.
