I tried the small community project, after a couple of days Im bored silly with it, its just not me no matter how hard I try. Rehoming some of the fish, the others will be moved to the rio 400.

So Ive just ordered a Vieja  It will be in the trigon 350 ALONE!! Unless anyone knows of something robust enough to live with it once grown. Currently 8cms (approx).

So Im after info, on how quick do they grow, is it roughly the same as an Oscar?

I know they like a veggie diet, no problem there, with cichlid pellets as staple too, anyone with experience of these let me know, I know nelly had one, that caused problems if I remember corrently, but this isnt going in with anything else.

My friend has a group of 5 or 6 in a tank with a Oscar and Texas and they're getting on fine they did fight a bit between them but now theyre getting on fine. He's not had them too long but theyre already starting to colour up:)

lols I just PMed you being nosy after seeing your thread haha. I think there is scope to add an other wet pet in there maybe a Salvini? Or Jag/ Jag relative?

Wills

That must be some size tank for all those :hyper:

Wills, really? I thought they would be too aggressive for another cichlid, I thought maybe some large dither, Hmmmmmm intersting....

Just read your pm, will reply in a sec lol

They're all small atm not sure what his future plan is but atm theyre in a 180g i think.

Yes my exsperience with vieja was'nt the best, hehe

however they are stunning fish, my friend has my old female vieja bifa in her five foot tank all alone, she tried a few times with tank mates,it killed anything that went in the tank, but she was a stunner....

I got her at about 3-4inches, she was fine for a while with the oscars and jag etc, but suddenly one day when i got home she had killed the green terror and pulverised the two oscars....

growth rate was just a bit quicker than the oscars growth rate,as a wet pet id say yes deffo, unless you go 250us plus, theres someone on another forum who has a 300+usg and has a stunning array of vieja...

what about them there argentea

Hells bells!! Maybe Ive been thinking of a different fish...... wet pet I think it is then :)

Yeah nelly I knew you'd had problems, that was a bifa though, I think synspila are slightly less aggressive, although I still wont be trying another cichlid in there. Dont like the argenta either, well he/she arrives tomorrow morning, will get pics up as soon as possible.

Have no knowledge of the fish but it sure looks nice, cant wait to see the pics.

Cant find much info on them myself, information varies from place to place, some sources say, they are relatively placid for the veija species, others say they are can be highly aggressive. As with all cichlids, its going to depend on the individual fish.
