Oh with you, couldnt tell you with these, but the Rotkeils change colour all over, the head goes a darker blue, the red on the shoulders on the male gets a deeper red and their anal fins go from yellowy orange to deep orange. The pair of Greens I had for a while, their anal fins changed colour before they spawned, well not changed colour, the colours became more vivid. The best way is the female will start shaking and shimmying at the male then start to clean off a rock or some wood

The markings will darken in breeding behavior and defensive behavior.

Great looking fish But more people with Severs lol!! I liked it when mine was the only one

With stress bars and the difference between good/bad in Severus - Just solid black bars with no facial markings is generally stressed. But facial stripes is territorial/breeding mode. When they go all black is generally when they are scared rather than stressed.

I have had better colours from my lone male than when he was in a pair - in the pair he was always dark with really really red eyes.

With regards catch location - the odds are that any adult Severus in the UK are wild caught but where from is hard to pin exactly like Bonzo said most are Atapabo which is what mine is as well but Severus are found all over the place - I have to admit though I have never seen such a "square" Severum

they seem to act wild if you know what i mean very shy keep themselves to themselves but they finally come out tonight and took some doromin with me close to the tank. I think the small rotkeils and barbs are helping in that aspect. I see what you mean about the squareness i have never seen it either but saying that i have never seen heros severus this big before hence why i had to have them.
