Value For Money - Tapwater Conditioners

As Mikaila said sodium thiosulphate is the active ingredient in most simple dechlorinators. If I had a source I might go that way. I find that the price per dose is best for me using Prime but the thiosulphate would be an even cheaper alternative if I had a source for it.

My water quality is generally pretty good during the summer, and I can get by with sodium thiosulfate during these times. Angels Plus sells the crystals, http://www.angelsplus.com/SuppliesWater.htm

I generally go with two drops per gallon of the suggested mix. The rest of the year, or if a storm rolls through that stirs up the lake I use Prime. A 2 liter jug gets me through the winter.

I used to use pond dechlor but I found it always started to smell when I had around half a bottle left... I didnt like to use it when it ponged - just incase it had becomr useless..

Instead I bought a bottle of DRIED powdered stuff. Cant for the life of me remember what it is called.... Has lasted me ages so far. If anyone needs to know then Please PM me and I will root it out of the cupboard.

It is also usable to remove Phosphates a few other nasties - basically binds up any chlorine and binds other nasties if you increase the dosage per litre.

Id never choose to use liquid dechlorinator treatments again - so expensive.

An interesting review of some of the more popular conditioners http://www.thetropicaltank.co.uk/rev-cond.htm
