Urgent _ Id Needed For Rescued Cichlid

I've just taken in a cichlid which I was told was a male convict. It's definitely not a male convict, or even related. In fact I don't even think it's SA. Definitely a cichlid but
1.Shape is long like a molly not round like a con
2. lots of narrow black stripes BUT
a)Tail and fins are yellow
b) has long dark dangly pectoral fins
c)has two yellow spots on anal fin
d) has bright turquoise spot on each gill cover
Could it be a female Malawi mouth brooder? If so can it stay temporarily in same tank as cons and jewels or would they all kill each other?

yes that looks like it.What is it? Mine has long dangly dark blue fins at the front too almost like gourami. internet research indicates itmay be some kind of Peacock/Aulonocara/ Would this cichlid be Ok in a tank with 2 female cons and a mean jewel

Thanks Nelly but I'm not looking to set up any more tanks. Have severe chronic MTS already!I only took this fish in from someone desperate to rehome it as it was meant to be a male con which would have fitted perfectly in my cichlid tank... but it obviously isn't. The key issue is
-what species of Malawi is it
-male or female
-can it be kept safely (at least until it's rehomed or I can set up a new tank for it) with 2 girl cons and 3 young jewels. The largest jewel(called ASBO!)is a mean fish who his bullies smaller siblings and chases the cons although they are bigger.

Until i'm sure it's safe to put it in with my other cichlids, it's staying overnight in a heated bucket. Fed it Tetramin flakes.

as i say,try it thats all anyone can do,i have a small yellow lab which got dumped on me,put it in with my chocolate cichlid and two rainbows and a african blockhead...all fine with themkept together about 1month,moved him in with the blue lobster at present til situation of tanks is sorted as had to move byrcon into cichlid tank,thought the lab might become food,only 2inch

Nice looking malawi cichlid I can rehome the cichlid for you for my setup. How big is the cichlid and where abouts are you?
Hey nelly how is your african blockhead doing have you found him a pair yet. I heard they are best to be kept with more of the same species rather than singularly in a cichlid setup, they will live longer, I only have a 4" male and trying to find a female for them to pair up. They are still rare in lfs and where I got mine at fish inc they can't seem to get any more in. You're in the UK right? Do you know any fish shops that stock them? Mine is the African congo tinanti cichlid but not the ones that have a big block on their head, the males have one but it is smaller. Need to find one as mine can get bored, but since I have changed my setup inside to ocean rock he has been moving around alot exploring the place more and he has even dug out the sand from under the rocks to make a tunnel from one side of the 4ft to the other lol.

Yeah mine has a right personality we used to keep him in a community which he was completely safe and only attacked to defend himself if another was provoking him. Since he was alone back then he used to hang around with the flying fox because they swam just like him and they are a bit like bottom dwellers. Yeah I am in Doncaster, I go to Viscum, Hemswell, World of pets and Fish inc in Sheffield to get my stock really good fish stores. All of them do marine except fish inc but they have most of the rare fish.

If you have a Malawi setup with less aggressive cichlids like labs (NOT Mbuna as he will be bullied maybe even killed) yu are welcome to him ASAP. You will need to collect him/her from SE London near Deptford, evenings or weekend. Need to rehome it properly as this poor fish has been in 3 homes and quite a few temporary tanks in the last week. It's a wonder it's still alive! Pleas elet me know if yu can take it. Otherwise I will advertise it on classified and if no one replies it's going in the convict tank.

Dame thats the only down side that I am over 3 hours away from you. Hope you get to rehome him, yeah best to put him on aquarist ad unlucky for me really nice fish and I know after all the stress its been through there would be no point in posting, never posted before or received a fish from the post.

Well I had to put him in with the cons as the 25W heater wasn't really adequate to heat up bucket. He's been there 24 hours now and so far no casualties. Feisty little fish who stared down three larger jewels at the same time and then chased a female con twice his size. He's currently the smallest fish in the tank and hopefully still too small to kill anyone but is asserting himself already. Lovely little fish now he's no longer stressed with lots of character. Will have to watch him as he grows bigger and perhaps rehome him.
What species is this and how big do they grow?
