*updates*latest Pics And Tank Shots !

Great tank Mary, so how long is your arowana now and what sort of occupants can you house with it? If it grows to 24" I think it would probably eat anything I have.

Are those fish expensive?

So say I got an arowana for my 55g (which I won't because I can't afford one and I like to have plants in my tank) would it be ok in a 55g? Also paul_mts how long do BGF's get because my neighbor has a BGF and some other kind of ghost knife it is a white one (not sure what species of the ghost knife it is) in his 55g thats to small for those fish espically 2 right? (sorry for getting off topic maryjason)

No arowana can live in a 55 gallon tank, or any tank that is 4ft long.

Well I thought if they only got to be 2 feet long and a 55g is 4 feet long that they would have some room. But I do see your point of how they would like more room to turn around than 2 feet.

Depends on the aro, (both species and individual). A silver would need a damn site more than 220.

If you have one of the smaller growing ones that like to scream around from time to time (like CFCs) then it will certainly benefit from the extra room to turn. However I would think it would take a little while to get to 24". I wouldn't be surprised if some don't get that far. I don't recall how long CFC has had his.

Assuming aros grow like most other fish they will shoot to half their size and will gradually slow. I wouldn't be surprised if CFC's takes a good 2 to 3 years to actually finish growing (though with little knowledge on the lifespan of the fish I may be miles out).

Let's face it, minimum tank sizes are down to personal preference on species and beliefs on fish room. I myself would never consider keeping Bala sharks in less than a 6x2x2 as I have seen how much they love to fly around the tank, yet others will sometimes recommend a 48x18x18.

I would say a 6x2x2 is the bare minimum for an aro and even if not, should suffice for a fair amount of time.

arowanas need tanks somewhere in the area of 220+ gallons
Hi matty..and you know this how??? what kinda aro are you talking about??? One thing i will say is if my aro gets close to out growing his tank (which wouldnt be for a very long time) If i couldnt provide him with a larger tank i would rather re-home him. With every fish i own if i cant up grade when needed i d rather give them to someone who can. I have researched all about Arowanas, I didnt even know what one was before we got ours so i had to. Take a look at my tank pics...he has a hell ov alot ov room in there and NO tank mates. So depending on size and age ov a persons arowana it can stay in various sized growout tanks. If I had ov had more time and notice when we got the aro we'd have bought 6ft x 2ft x 2ft first but with the advice we got from a very good lfs we go to it was fine for him to be in the previous tank for a few months until we upgraded his tank.

Wow MJ!! He's just beautful! The tank is looking great.. can't wait to see it once you get it all finished :)

(don't let them push you around re: the black background..i prefer blue too :p )

I agree with the canadian^^ lol :p , There just jealous :shifty: , but soon there will be nothing to be jealous of once I steal your tank! muhahahaha  just wait and see B)

Got a nice piece of bogwood today. Its 32" long and has plenty of hiding places in it. Here are a few pics before it went into tank and when we put it in. Now hopefully when we got to Lfs next friday the 14" fire eel we are wanting is still there and we are gonna try it as a tank mate ! :hey: All we have to do now is get a plain blue background !

Somebody Comment On The Freakin Pictures And Nobody Gets Hurt! ...Don't you think there nice? Expensive? Sexy? . Well scratch the last question out. :look: .

i like very much mary it shall look better wen you get you fire eel
all i could suggest is some hidding places for the eel

all looks really good  and that aro looks soo tiny in that tank  would suggest pot for fire eel as most decor the aro can scartch him/herself badly when jumping around which happened to my uncles silver aro and the scratch got infected and died :rip:

Don't know if you already know this but FYI, jardinis are well known fish murderers. There are always exceptions, but almost all jardinis don't take kindly to tankmates
