UPDATE: Colomnaris or Velvet and some Parasite

I have exactly the same problem with my sons's Black Moor, and it looks like velvet to me too.

See the link to my topic here

Hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck.

Julia

Thanks everybody, and good luck with your fish too, Julia.

He's looking worse...the bloody red spots seem to be multiplying :(

He's in the 10 gallon hospital tank and I've dropped in some algea wafers and blood worms, but he hasn't bothered with them.

The only parasite medication I could find at Wal Mart is something called Quick Cure "Fast relief for ick and other parasites." It says to add one drop per gallon, but 1 drop per two gallons for tetras. There are livebearers, cats and tetras in my tank, so I followed the directions for treating tetras. Will that be ok, or should I move the tetras to a seperate hospital tank and treat them in there with a different amount than the others?

I don't know if I can use this medication at the same time as the other medication that I put in the hospital tank with the plec?

I'm so worried about the plec (who I named Romeo). I hope he makes it...but things aren't looking so hot.

Got the stats:

Nitrate 20
Nitrite 0
pH 7.0
Ammonia 0

Also, I went ahead and added the Quick Cure to the hospital tank as the back of the T.C. Capsules says "This medication can be used in conjunction with Aquarium Pharmaceuticals anti-parasitic medications."

He's still looking awful, and he won't eat... Poor guy :(

Here he is in the hospital tank

See all the red/bloody lesions? :( He's also a lot "fluffier." He didn't look so bad when I put him in... Is it possible that the medicine is making him worse?

Blood spots can be due to parasites, nothing to lose at this moment in time he has alot of deseases piiling up, you might have to be prepared o lose him bless him, he's in bad shape, in has bacterial infections on top of parasites, good luck fingers crossed.

Sad to report that I lost him over night :( I checked in at 3:30 am and he was gone. Poor guy. He was obviously not taken care of very well. I wish I could have gotten ahold of him sooner. I tried my best...

I also lost a neon overnight... Don't know what happened there. All the other fish seem fine :dunno:

Sorry you lost him but with all those diseases going ona t once it did seem an uphill battle, but you did what you could for him.
When you get any new fish please quarantine for a month before adding to your community.
Do some extra water changes just in case.

Bless him, he didn't look well at all, i agree with black angel, at least you did your best for him, sorry for your loss, R.I.P.

Thanks guys. I had to go out for a while and I just got home to find another neon floating at the top of the tank and barely breathing. He'll be gone soon, too. I don't know what's going on, but I think it's the medication that's killing the neons, as the directions said to use half the amount for tetras. I only used half the amount...do you think that I should move the neons to the hospital tank and not medicate them?

Neons are funny with meds, yes move them over and lesson the dose again, good look, are you running extra aeration as meds take the 02 out of the water.

I'm not running extra airation. I'll get right on top of that, though.

The plec died in the hospital tank and I don't want to subject the neons to his diseases anymore than they already have been... How should I sterilize it?

Hot salty water, then rinse well, i bet you are fed up but most of us have been there, not knowing if you are coming or going, or just add extra aeration the neons might be fine then.

Yeah...I'm going a bit nuts. I kind of had a breakdown last night when my fiance got home from work and I had to tell him what was going on. He hugged me and said "I'll get you a new fish." But he didn't seem to understand that I'm not upset that I no longer have fish that I once had...I'm upset that they're dying and I can't save them.

I'm going to add the extra airation now. I'm putting in 2 air stones and I'm going to go disinfect the bubble wall and add that one. Then I'm going to clean that hospital tank and watch the neons.

Poor fish...I wish I had known better than to put the sick plec in there.

I really appreciate all your help, by the way.

I had to learn the hard way so don't be to hard on your self.

This is really, really awful... I woke up this morning to find more dead fish. Tons more...including a cory that I've had for 4 years that I was rather attached to and my 3 adorable little spotted platy fry that I was aslo really partial to...I don't know what to do anymore!

Doing a HUGE water change now...any other suggestions?
