unable to reply to pms

The last week or 2 I can post in forums but not in pms. It did let me start a new 1 but not reply. Is it just me?

Edit: it wouldn't let me start this either but did save it as a draft & then it posted

See if the problem PMs have the box checked as in the following image. MUST be unchecked to allow response. This would be at the bottom of the PM page.

I tried to reply to your pm, Jay, but it didn't work. I don't see that as an option except when starting a new pm. I don't think I've ever checked either box...maybe once on another forum.

The first I noticed the problem was on many post (months long) pm. I thought I asked a question, just hit send & moved on without paying attention. When I didn't hear back for more than a week, I saw my question wasn't there. I tried to type a new post but it wouldn't send, tried preview & edit but nothing. I then started a new pm to the same member, that worked & he replied but I again couldn't send.

Are you sure that you don't have a reply from your end that was never sent and is still sitting there as a draft?

Talking with my husband, I wonder if there could be an issue with my new PC, some mystery setting? It hasn't been too long, from Feb 22. How would I check that. I'm sorry to be a PITA, I think most of you know I'm very tech lame.

What browser are you using on the new system? If not installed yet I'd suggest going with Firefox at least to check your issue.

Thanks Jay, I'm using Edge, as I did before w/Windows 10, now Win 11. I'll think about that option. I need to do my taxes before I get involved with too much "other stuff". I will look at my privacy settings, my husband set my new PC up...

If it matters, there is partially installed ad blocker from husband's PC. It keeps popping up & he said just ignore it. Could that be part of my problem? I know I had trouble joining TFF as the ads covered the "submit button", I forget how I got around that, maybe with 2 Tank's & moderator help? Or just incredible patience on my part?

I hate ads and I block pretty much all of them. I use two browsers (Pale Moon and FireFox) and both have ad blockers. Pale moon is more secure but it has issues with financial sites and YouTube, so I use FF for them. But FF has issues on this forum and I mostly use P M here.

I actually have EdgeChrome Blocker software which prevents Edge from accepting updates or being reinstalled.

I do not do automatic updates for almost anything, This has been the case since I had Windows 7. For some time with 7 I did updates from the catalogue as I would only do the security updates and that was how I hade to do that. I do update things, but only after I have checked them out. I used to trust Microsoft until Windows 10 which supplanted Apple as the most invasive software maker. After a year+ with an Apple Mini, I concluded I would never again own anything made by Apple. I now have a $2,000+ Apple paper weight.

I have used windows Starting with 3.0. Since then I have only used 98, XP, 7 and 10. I only accepted 10 when I gad a PC expert build my current box and he loaded 10. He disabled a lot of it for me. In order to continue using TurboTax (now owned by Intuit) which I began using when it ran on DOS, I had to get windows 11. My guy was able to put it onto the laptop I have and have not used since 2023. The laptop will only be used for doing my taxes as I am doing everything else on 10. I am on the extended support program and my guy says I can likely keep using 10 for 4- or 5 more years based on how I use the net.

I got my first PC in 1987. Until the end of 1998 I used dial up. I was doing all my parents banking etc. and I would dial into the Citibank system to do this. Then they announced in 1998 they would be migrating to using the internet. So I needed a new box and a new version of windows.

The point is since 1987 until today I have never been hacked, never had to remove malware and never gotten a virus. I use the net all the time and have for decades. I consider the most important part of my cyber defense to be how I use the net. Not since I got the huge 10 megabyte hard drive when we upgraded my 386 chip to a 486 have I even managed to fill a drive. Here is my C drive today

That could easily be your issue especially with the install being not complete.

Well, it seems to be a sneaky ad for an ad blocker, neither of us could find it. So I don't think that's my problem. Maybe some privacy setting during new PC set up? I don't know what to look for that would cause this issue, any ideas? I do appreciate the help.

Hah, I don't know what fixed it, but I was able to reply to a pm today! Maybe dascrow did some forum magic?!? I'm all happy now.
