Firstly, I must warn that these fish have been kept in outside ponds for many, many generations (since 1995) and have acclimatised to the conditions... PLEASE DO NOT SUBJECT YOUR FISH TO THE SAME CONDITIONS.
We had a particularly cold winters day and night yesterday. In my outside ponds, I keep Guppies, Mollies, Swords, Platies and Convicts.... This morning at daybreak, I measured the water temperatures in the outside ponds... It was (on average) 12 Deg. C... with the swords being the lowest at 8 deg C.... Immediately when I put flakes in the ponds, they all responded and was eating like they're in a 27 DegC tank....
The thermometers I use to measure the temperatures are as depicted below... Precision instruments which we use at work to measure the temperatures of humans to ensure they are fit to work underground (in the mine)... It is a laser temp recorder which gives a digital readout and are very accurate... I do not believe that any other tropicals can survive these conditions... not even fish of the same species....
