I've gone to the LFS to buy crickets and ended up getting myself a whole new tank... so obviously, I have absolutely no idea how to resist temptation. Sorry bud, can't help ya!

i went to the lfs just to ask advice, i never even had money with me,

i bought a malawi tank and said i would pay the guy tomorow :*)

well, now that i think about it, you should buy a fish if you see one that youve wanted for a while. i went to petsmart just to get some food, didnt have enough money for a pair or rams, now they gone, and i regret it every time i hear people talking about rams

How do I resist buying new, fancy fish, that I've never seen or heard about? Easy...

I think to myself, do I really know how to house it, feed it, treat it and all that? if I realise that I don't even know what is the best temp. for them or don't even know what PH it requires, I simply don't buy it, and maybe get a plant or something instead.

I mean, I'd feel less guilty and sad if a plant died, rather than the latest fish I bought just because I thought it looked cool and it died because I couldn't house it properly or I didn't know ehough about it. Plants are much less, requiring(?) shall we say.

So that's my advice to you. Ask yourself if you can really house the fish or whatever you're buying. If you can't, go buy some fancy fish flakes or treat your fish to some live bloodworms. Or if you're like me, go buy a plant or decoration if you really want something new to add to your tank.

I found a good way to cure this problem. When you need supplies only, like food or filters go to the LPS with the ich ridden crappy tanks with the dead fish in them.

They carry Tetramin and Hikari just like your favorite store.

This way you'll say 'I wouldn't expose my tank to these fish" and just get what you need.

but then your supporting the LFS that doesn't deserve your business....

I think you should get the 90 Gal... LOL

hahaha, glad I'm not the only one with that issue. went out a month ago to get some food for my picky-eater betta, camw back with food, another tank, filter, etc. hehehe, mum wasn't too pleased. the other day I was proud though, went and got a cover and that was it. :D hehe.

...think there are worse things to be addicted to than fish, though ;)

I managed to resist temptation at maidenhead aquatics... I just ignored the tanks.... easier said than done though...

Now, a fish room is something i need to spend some serious money on... but theres no realistic point in doing it yet because i still live with the parents, and i dont know if i will move out, and i dont know how permanent it will be...

If i had one it would have to be at least...

2 x 5x3x1.5ft tanks,
4 x 2x3x2ft tanks
Water Sump to use for water changes...
Then have all the usual things like a sink, hose, draining floor and some storage space..

One day.... lol

Well since i started working at the fish shop i have spent close to £200, but i dont actually expect to spend much more this month as i have bought the only things i had promised myself :)

But anway, a fish shop is like a candy shop, so many tempting things, but if you buy them every time you go to the shop, your tanks will get too "fat" and you will suffer the consequences, which include MTS, Overstocking or Debt.

You could always just order all your supplies off the internet, like i do. Especially since you can buy in bulk and save. Also Petco ships and even with shipping their prices are cheaper then most LFS.

Well I've really gone and done it. Darn it! I promised myself some plant food, a flouro tube, a slab of slate (rock), and some Java's.

I've got 3 of the above.......and completely forgot the plant food! Don't you just hate it when that happens?!

I also swore not to buy....ANY....MORE....FISHES. Now, guess what I came out with?

I'm weak I know. Weakness can be a strength too! ;)
