The fuzzy thing is fungal infection. He probably had his fins nipped and now he has fungal infection there. Keep up with water changes first to see if it improves if not there is stuff you can buy to clear it up.

Whats your opinion on isolating him from the rest of hte community?

Well he doesn't need to be isolated for the fungal infection but you need to either find out who is nipping his fins and remove them or remove him to his own tank. Bettas can live with other fish I have mine with Cardinal Tetra, Platys and 3 killifish (I chose a peaceful species though as they can be nippy)

Over on the Betta section of these forums I've seen pictures of bettas with all their beautiful fins just gone totally shredded from being nipped. So I'd say if you want him in your main tank with other fish maybe take back some of the nippy types and change them for something less nippy. Good tank mates for a Betta are cory.

It's up to you but I'd keep an eye on the situation

And yes it's usually recommened regular water changes to keep it nice and clean to try and clear a fungal infection first rather than dosing with meds straight off. If it gets worse then go that route.

yea the nippers are out. will change water today again - last change 3 days ago
