Time It Takes To Heat Water?

I read that link but if you notice in a sentence right near the start, he was talking about fish in cycling, not fishless.

The time to do a waterchange is when you think it's clearing the amount produced during a day, but you aren't seeing zero because of the backlog.

Chris you have not read the whole post by Bignose then because he dose state it applies to the fishless cycle as I have already mentioned. And you are right I am not seeing zero Nitrites because of the backlog this is why I am asking about water changes to clear the backlog.

Quote from Bignose: There is one aspect of fishless cycling that is potentially faster. That is, because there aren't fish in the tank, you can turn the temperature up to the mid 80s (Fahrenheit), and allow the bacteria to reproduce at a slightly faster rate. At normal mid 70's temps, the cycling bacteria double at around 20 hours, and I think in the mid 80's it increases to around 17 or 18 hours. Let's call it 2 1/2 hours. If cycling takes 21 days, saving 2 1/2 hours per day adds up to just under two total days.

Or am I reading this wrong ?

Clint.

That just reads to me as being able to speed a fishless by turning the temp up where fish wouldn't like it.

Which is fine, but I wouldn't worry about the temp of water going in. Since it won't have any bearing on a fishless tank, and for the period while it heats up the bacteria may grow slower but as it heats will speed back up and you will end up adding fish at the same time anyway.

Just my perspective on it, but as always, I'm no expert and my opinions are just that. Opinions.

you can try and match the water temp as closely as possible but it doesn't make that big a difference to the cycle. I wouldn't worry about getting the temp perfect

Ok cool!
I read it all as one post, which I belive it to be. Not to worry thou as you have just said it is your opinion and that is all I wanted.

Thanks for your input.

Thanks Ryefish I am at 28.4C at present.

Looks like I am up for a water change maybe tomorrow then, as I have taken onboard all the advice from the members who have replyed to this post so far including my pm's.

You can easily pump that temperature upto 30-32* which will help (a little) to speed things up. Just remember to drop it again when you achieve the cycle and before you add fish!

Thanks for pointing that out! I agree it should be a little higher, I did turn it down the other day but only checked when posting...

Temp now back up!
