Thinking Of Changing From Tropical Community To Mbuna Or Tanganyikan

Well, between yesterday and this morning all but 3 had died, strange how I got 8 from one place, 3 from another :look:

Anyway, I went over to MA after catching the leleupi, handed the leleupi over and had a chat with one of the 2 lad who deal with the Tangs. The result was that I got another 8 cyps for £50.00 total instead of the £120.00 it would have cost me @£15.00 each :hyper:

I got credit for the leleupi as well so my complete spend for the 8 cyps and another little calvus (they`re still labelled as comps), as well as frozen cyclops and a slab of brineshrimp in garlic was £47.99......happy days!! :D :D

I`ll be keeping my fingers crossed that these cyps do ok, they`re much healthier than the first lot, already have good colouring coming out and generally look chubbier than the others did. They`ve already had some cyclops and seem to be pretty happy at the moment.

I received some wormer plus this morning and have added that to the tank so time will tell now B-)

Fingers crossed for the new arrivals and so sorry to read about the Cyprichromis losses overnight.

Were there any signs of what might have killed them?

Any idea if you now have a potential pair of calvus, or are they still a bit young to tell?

Hi Goat :)

Thanks B-) The only conclusion was that the cyps were suffering from 'skinny disease' which can be attributed to bad breeding, lack of worming etc but I guess nothing can be proved. These new ones come from a different supplier and they really are much healthier and active than the last lot so fingers crossed :good:

Not sure about the calvus to be honest, I`ll upload a pic in a bit, hopefully someone will be able to tell me if I have a pair, or 1 calvus and 1 comp or whether they`re the same sex :/

Edited to add pics:

Cool, how many did you order :hyper:

Well I was going to have just 3 but hubby said 'just in case' there are any problems and I was to lose any (like the cyps), he`d rather I had a good number of them than have to replace and pay another P&P charge.....so I`m having 5 B-)
I`m paying for 3 and hubby is paying for the other 2 :D

I received my 5 lucipinnis this morning from Mike and despite a little bit of a worry when I first opened the box, they`re active and quite happily milling around the rocks in my tank now. They`re gorgeous and I love em already   :D :D

Thanks creg :)

Pink fish with blue eyes? Yellow fins or not?

The ones with yellow fins are the caudopunctatus (punks), the other ones are the multifasciatus (multis), the multi is the one I`ve entered in the fish of the month comp for January....they`re gorgeous, cute and so funny....can you tell I love them??

the ones with the yellow fins, saw one in the video with the syno catfish which i also love

i know its a vague question but what kind of tangs are suitable for a 180 litre tank?

The new catfish are awsome, love that open mouth look when they swim towards the camera, reminds me of guinea pigs!

What panicked you this morning when you opened the box?
How big are they guys?

Like others have already said, I'm regretting not setting one of my four tanks aside for a Tanganyikan setup, after watching your switch (plus seeing kiriyama's Dwarf Sumbu and doresy's setup).

Yeah they do look funny

When I opened the box this morning there were 2 out of the 5 lucipinnis that seemed to be struggling to stay 'upright', not sure if it was because the water in the bag was cold but I floated them in the tank asap to get the temperature up. After about half an hour of floating the bag I started drip acclimatising them then about 15 mins later they started moving around a bit more. By the time I`d acclimatised them for about an hour-hour and a half they were ok and I got them into the tank.
They seem fine now thank god but they didn`t half give me a fright!! :hyper: :S
They`re all about 2 inches long so around half the size they get to I think?

You never know....one day you`ll get the chance to set up a Tang tank ;) I'm really glad I chose the Tangs though :good:

There`s another batch of punk fry....loads of them, lots more than last time and it looks like they`ve only just hatched due to the tiny size of them!! :hyper: :D

Not sure how long this lot will last unless I try and get them into a hatchery
