Made the decision that I should put my poorly corydoras out of his misery. Though I don't have any clove oil so I used bleach within minutes he's gone. But seeing his fins disapeer and then his eyes went funny. I don't want to need to do that in a hurry again

minutes? A more humane way would be to put him in a bag and slam a brick down on the bag, it's horrible but alot more humane then bleach

I find a quick stab through the head with a sharp knife is easier than either clove oil or the brick method; with clove oil they do sometimes seem to struggle and gasp for a moment which worries me; with a sharp knife they're gone straightaway.

Sounds a bit gruesome.

Simple sever of the spinal chord just behind the head and pithing of the brain is easily the most humane way for small fish.

Wow Bleach, I used the above way and hit it over the head with a mallet in a food bag.

With the brick method they're gone straight away, and if your squimish like me it's better then chopping of their heads, because you dont have to see the fish

As established,that's a pretty rubbish way of doing things. But what's done is done.

I'm just curious, did you read that method online somewhere? Or just improvise?

I know it weren't the best way to do it but its all I had. I waited minutes I didn't sit there and watch him. I read online a while ago that u can use bleach to do it. As an animal lover I didn't fancy cutting him in half or dropping a brick on him. He was nearly dead I think wen I got him out of the tank he didn't move at all when I touched him his gills were the only thing moving

I understand you didn't want to to something too 'gruesome', but a quick death with a brick is better for the fish, and as an animal lover that is what i would prefer. Im not going to preach at you because you've done it now and it can't be undone, but for the future, get some clove oil to put it to sleep slowly, or brick it. Bleaching it is probably about the worst method I can think of.
