I bought a second hand one of these filters from ebay.

I followed the pfk video guide on how to set it up (as it came with no instructions) and on one bit it said fill it up etc and then prime. Ive done this, ive also connected everything as tight as it can go and the lid is securely fastened but it keeps leaking from behind the handles?

Is this overfilling? If not, the seller is going to be getting a snotty email as it was not advertised properly if it is leaking.

Did you lubricate the 0-ring? This is often the cause of leaking, there have been a few threads on here lately of leaking TT's, do a search and see if any of the suggestion for fixing on those help.

Sorry I missed this. just come via your thread regarding "which Eheim" in Hardware, as you aren't likely to get a good Eheim new for your £80 budget and run the same risk of leaks with any brand when buying second hand as you have done here :good:

Anyhow...

It sounds like the main seal. Take it off, clean it and it's recess, along with the rim around the top of the filter or any and all dirt, before applying liberal amounts of Vaseline to the seal and re-seating it. Do not twist it as this will cause a leak, pretend you are fitting a rubber band around it and you'll be close enough correct :good:

After this, re-assemble and try it again. If this fails, it could also be the quick release seals. Again, remove them, clean up and Vaseline them before re-seating.

If the canister has sat empty for a while the seals may well have dried out. Most leaks on these filters are down to user neglect or miss-treatment :nod:
