Okay, I have a semi agressive Betta, Moe, and he needs a hiding spot so he can go and not see Pearl. What would you all suggest as a low maitenence decoration that will serve this purpose without making it difficult to see moe a lot? Should I put a cave or something next to the divider so he can only see through part of the divider?

Or does someone have a better suggestion? Pearl is fine and happy, he's blowing a bubble nest and darting around, but Moe seems a little too agressive to settle down with a next door neighbor easily.

Thanks, I appreciate the help. :)

Could you line the divider with plants to block the betta's view? Sort of like a hedge around a house?

Thats a possibility. I do want them to be able to see each other sometimes, but that might work. I'll have to see what sorts of tall plants I can get at the LFS or walmart (as well as caves) and see what I can do with it :)

Thats a good idea, and very cheap. An easy way of doing it would be to buy one of those background plants that are all stuck together and hang on the back of the tank, but in your case you can hang it on the divider. Another thing you could do, would be to buy a non see through divider and replace the one you already have. Or as you suggested depending on space availability you can always buy a large cave and put it next to the divider.

Constantly flaring is not good for your bettas health.....so I am glad you are aware of this and trying to correct the situation!

Yeah, the trick is, I do want them to flare, occassionally. I just don't want them doing it all the time. So I turn their light off now and then during the day (they tend to go to their seperate corners and hang out when I do that)

Right now, Pearl's playing with his nest, and Moe wants on the other side of the divider.

And now they've decided its play time again. *laugh*

They seem to have bursts of flaring. They go do their own thing for 20 or so minutes, spend 5 minutes flaring, repeat.

Moe's actually getting used to Pearl being there. He doesn't bother to flare quite so much now that hes figured out that he can't get to Pearl.

Pearl, on the other hand, is a little baby, so he tries to dart about and prove he is a man. *laugh* It is fun to watch. I have a few plants in there right now, but I don't think Moe likes them :(
