So, I recently got a 35g tank and put 4 Cherry Barbs in it. Then, as I started to research what else I wanted and through discussions with Man of Fish I realized that for the fish I'd like to get a sand bottom is probably the route I want to go. Currently I am using a Penguin 350 (Marineland) filter although I do have two Fluval 2Plus.

I'm wondering what all I need to consider when making the switch? From what I have managed to find online so far play sand from Home Depot seems to be one of my better options. I'm going with fake plants and I had thought to maybe add in some live plants but it seems they don't do well with the sand?

Any advice or suggestions on swapping my tank would be appreciated. I figure I should do it now before I get more fish or I'm never going to do it.
