I currently own two catfish sold to me as "Farlowella whiptail". However, after doing some research online, this name can be associated with both sturisomatichthys panamense and aureus. They also both look rather similar, so for future breeding information could I have some help in IDing these fish?

Thanks

No idea. I have five of them, sold as panamense, but sometimes they look more like aureus to me. Whatever they are, they're very cool fish.

Look at S. aureus on PlanetCatfish. It tells you how to differentiate them. It also says S. panamense is not in the hobby.
