Stocking Suggestion For 240L

My current stocking is boring me, Its all livebearers in an attempt to watch lots of fry growing and seeing all the different combinations of platys breeding but its not working, not seen a single fry!!

So im thinking of a full restock and re-scape. What do people recomend for an interesting tank?

Im thinking something like 4 bala sharks, 4 clown loaches, common plec, and a shoal of something... with no plants, instead ornaments like rocks and sunken ship..

But im open to any suggestions..

With a high PH like that, you could consider a Malawi cichlid tank. Sand and rock are ideal for decor and the fish are full of character.

Sounds like a good plan, I always consider changing my stock, but then i realise everything revolves around my common plec (Raver)

I have had giant castle ornaments, bogwood, rocks and just plants ( fake due to his plant moving ability) so even though he is my little pride and joy at about 16" I would not reccommend one of these guys unless you have like a 5/6ft tank thus not being dominated.

On the other hand their are plenty of amazing pleco's out there for you to choose from and as for the other stock i always wanted some bala sharks, but ended up grabbing a bargain on some Punitis Denisoni( Red line torpedo barbs) which dont grow as large and I wont have to worry about them in the future! I only wanted the sharks because well, there sharks!!

Good thinking without the plants because from what ive heard from friends Clown loachs tend to have fun with them by absolutley destroying them so id consider that when you plan your aquascape.

Hi all those fish get too big for a 240 liter tank however there are fantastic alternatives to those for your size tanks. So instead of 4 Bala Sharks go for 5 Denison Barbs and instead of 4 Clown Loaches go for 5 Yoyo Loaches and instead of the common plec go for a bristlenose or some kind of smaller L number plec like L201 inspector plec which is black with big white spots on. Then for a shoal with those you could do a few dwarf neon rainbows or black ruby barbs?

Please dont get the fish you mentioned though they all grow over a foot long and are far to commonly sold to small tanks they all need a 6-8 foot tank at least and those fish I suggested are really good for a 240 and a nice mix lots of variety in colours and shapes and similar so similar to those you said about it would be irresponsible to go with the bigger ones.

im affraid that bala sharks, clown loaches and a common plec would all be too big eventually for a 240L tank.... unless you were to upgrade quite soon

a 240L is a decent sized tank to stock and the choices would be endless but it all depends on what you like, the filtration etc etc.

just to give you an idea in my 240 i have a group of 16 cardinal tetras, 5 discus, 3 polkdot loach, 1 otocinclus, 1 SAE and a group of 9 rummy nose tetras and 2 L333 plecs waiting to be added in quarentine. the tank is heavilly planted and filtered by a rena xp3 and a fluval fx5 and 50% water changes per week at least.
