Stocking List

I've seen plenty of fish shops run by hobbyists refuse to sell people fish...or rather said 'I'm not selling you this, but how about this instead'. And then if the person was adamant they wanted the unsuitable fish then refused to serve them. This gets them a good reputation, and once you've got a good reputation word of mouth spreads and I think generally leads to a more successful business.

yeh ur certainly right about getting a better reputation. tbh i haven't been to many aquatic shops but this particular shop is certainly the best around in as much as cleanliness and condition of fish goes and to a novice like myself they seem knowledgable (even told me to do the fishless cycle). But it is good to have an excellent resource like this website to get good impartial information :)

AS for stocking list i think:

2 Angel fish (may sacrifice something else to have 4)
4 Bolivian rams (2 pairs)
3 dwarf gouramis ( 1 male 2 female)
10 cardinal tetra
6/8 cory's (species not decided)
1/2 pleco's (dependant on species)

thats kinda how it stands at the mo.... been looking around at so many different fish but its hard to find species that work well together

You could have 4 rams in a 180L tank. Bettas and gourami don't mix well, and neither do bettas and angelfish. But bettas and rams are fine together.

Could have up to 4-5 angelfish in the tank if you wanted.

Sounds like a nice stocking to me. Though I'm not sure if two breeding pairs of Angels would co-exist happily in a 180...they might but it's something to have in the back of your mind if you did eventually get 2 pairs.
Which corys were you thinking of getting?

Not sure if i'd go for breeding pairs of angels to start off with. like the idea of getting a breeding pair of rams though, even thinking about a second tank just incase :) or even have a seperate tank for a pair of kribs.

Not sure on corys, maybe panda

forgot to add shrimps and a few snails to the stocking list!!!!!

What I mean is, if you get 4 angels and happen to end up with a pair forming, which is quite likely. If they then decide to breed they may gang up on the other two and generally be a bit of trouble. Alternatively if you end up with 2 pairs that decide to breed it could be all out war.

Panda Corys aren't recommended for new tanks in the same way neons aren't. But it would be up to you, I don't see why they can't be added to a new set-up as technically it is cycled. But there we go. Reason I was asking for a full stock list was to try n work out what the best order to introduce the fish would be. At the mo I'm thinking the cardinals would be the best to add first.

But either cardinals or rams sound like a good idea.

got ya bout the angels.. may perhaps try and keep them the same sex then if thats better..

I was thinking that if i had the panda's they would be the last to be introduced to the tank, i was thinking maybe 1 species a week??

i was thinking maybe the rams first so it would be easier to monitor them pairing up rather than having other fish getting involved

All sounds like a good plan to me :)

One last thing though, you can't sex angels until they breed. :p So good luck with that!

guess its just the 2 to start off with then...

if i stick with 2 then i may get a few harlequin rasbora or something

Just make sure whatever you get is either too fast for the angels or wont fit in their mouth as they grow.
Harlequins should be fine :)

just gotta wait out the fishless cycle now :(

You could always start planning your plants, wood, rock and general scape now. It means you can visit the lfs weekly after they get shipments in to see if there is anything new you like the look of.
Not so much with plants...but with rocks, n bits of wood or ornaments etc... Might keep you amused for awhile?

got most of it already... although i am gonna head to the lfs this weekend to have a look at whats in stock there at the mo. need to decide on a plec or 2. only trouble is i know im gonna be wanting other fish if i see em...

Well you can always alter you stocking ideas. That's why it's such a good idea to forward plan instead of impulse buy.
