Starting Fishless Cycle Thread

Day 42. No change to stats today. Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0.50 :grr: Nitrate 10 PH 7.2 after 12 hours. Nitrite 0 at 2nd reading.

Hang in there Annie,

Hey, have you got a nice big net as well as a small one? Its a lot easier to catch fish by using a small net to chase them into a big one. Next time you're feeling self-concious while looking at fish, you could get a net instead of another algae scraper. Sometimes I buy another flourescent lightbulb.. yes, I get in the same situation.

Waterdrop, I am hanging in there........ just ! I do have a small net at the ready, and it's just waiting to spring into action at the first sight of a ..........fish!

I really can't wait to start chasing some fish into a net, infact I am positively dreaming about it. I reckon the guy in the LFS is also dreaming of the day I purchase something other than an algae scrapper. :hey: So ,as always, I'm going to take your advice and purchase a large net on my next visit, bet that will confuse him!! :S

Day 43. All stats remain the same at 12 hours, Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0.50 :grr: 2nd reading, Nitrite 0, no other changes to report. :/

I know :shout: Patience....... Patience .........Patience! I am really trying, but the nitrites are even more trying!

Day 43. All stats remain the same at 12 hours, Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0.50 :grr: 2nd reading, Nitrite 0, no other changes to report. :/

I know :shout: Patience....... Patience .........Patience! I am really trying, but the nitrites are even more trying!
 ..better watch out or you'll be drafted into a Haiku session like we had a while back, patience patient.

Day 44. Stats at 12 hours were as follows: Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0.50 :grr: Nitrate 10 PH 7.0. 2nd reading, stats remained the same except for Nitrite 0. Ph appears to have dropped slightly again today, is this still okay?

Waterdrop, what exactly is Haiku? I must be having a blonde moment!

Day 45. Stats remain the same as previous day for both readings.

Read the Haiku link and I'm a little wiser now, infact I might even resort to putting pen to paper whilst I'm waiting! :hey:

This one seems particularly relevant to you, Annie, so thought i'd quote it. (I was rather proud of it too to be honest!)

Ode to a Fishless Cycler (Anniekins)

45 days with nitrite off the scale.
Nitrosomonas like a rocket, nitrospira like a snail.
Can't help but feel i've went completely off the trail.

Logged on to TFF to ask what to do,
Patience I was told, and i found that it was true,
when only 2 days later, the test tube went sky blue. :D

Hope that helps you through a bit. I'm sure your test tube will be sky blue any day now.......

BTT :good:

Day 46. Stats: Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0.25 :grr: Nitrate 5 PH 7.0. Reading taken after 13 hours. 2nd reading Nitrite 0 everything else, no change.

Thanks for the Haiku moment, you guys cheer me up no end!

Day 47. A little improvement today on the dreaded Nitrites, 1st reading showed a little below 0.25  Ammonia 0 Nitrate 5 PH 7.0. 2nd reading only change Nitrite 0.

I must say how pleased I was to see a little colour change indicating fewer nitrites. I know it may not last, but I enjoyed it whilst it was there! :)

Bring on tomorrow! :good:

Hard to imagine you won't see those double-zeros sometime during this coming week. I think you have to view it as much easier continuing to squirt in your 5ppm ammonia and test as opposed to getting the fish, still seeing the nitrite trace and then having to perform daily water changes, right?

~~waterdrop~~

Day 48. Readings as follows, at 12 hours nitrites nearly at zero but not quite there yet  Ammonia 0, Nitrate 5, PH 6.8/7.0. Checked again at 13 hrs nitrites 0

Couldn't agree more Waterdrop, I definately do not want to do water change after waterchange. :shout: I'm being Patient .........ever so Patient!

good for you :good: and we see you're being quiet about it so as to maintain the gracious etiquette with which you were raised
