I recently acquired a new breeding pair from a fellow breeder here in Canada. We travel often, and over the past year we have not been able to handle spawning bettas due to being away for days at a time. Though we still keep lotsa fish, and as of late, have slowed down our traveling
So, this lovely new pair I received is to bring us a new Blues line.....
They are spawn sibs, Voodoo the male is a beautiful, Blue Butterfly Halfmoon (see my avatar).
His sister Mojo is a turq halfmoon.
It took 4 days of 'courting' to spawn correctly, but they had a healthy batch of babies, who are free swimming now and hanging out on the fake, floating duckweed. The female was very responsive and took only one bite out of her dorsal, the male is untouched.
The male did excellent nestcare, until they were free swimming then he let the nest disintigrate overnight. Its a reasonably small spawn, their first (4 mos old). About 50 babies. They were fed liquifry and BBS today, I have a small corner filter slowed down, in their tank.
We should end up with a spawn of 50% royals and the remainder blues and grees/turq.
We have several breeder friends whom we will be sharing with, and trading with. And maybe a few for offer to other Canadians when the time comes.
I'll try to post some photos this week

Your parents sound stunning... I also *just* spawned a sibling BF HM pair, what a wierd coincidence. They're both green, though. I was considering spawning him with a steel blue just to get royals, they're gorgeous!
too bad I don't live in Canada, or I'd have to buy a baby from you to spawn with one of mine...
I'm exactly the same, I am such a sucker for blues/greens/turqs AND yellows!

) I guess I ahould have read all the post before posting a question. I tend to rush through peoples post when I see good pictures of bettas.
they're GORGEOUS! They look like blue-er versions of my boy and girl... I'm already thinking of what your babies and my babies spawn will look like!!! mwahaha
... he ate a bunch of bw's today, and his chin is still a bit pale but I think he's settling down. I feel horrible for taking him out, but he had been in there for 5 days without food, constantly working! I'm not completely sure if I didn't jump the gun, though, because it seemed like the fry could've benefited from him being in there for another day.... still, he was spending way too much time in the plants looking for the free-swimmers, and it seemed like he was starting to snack on them
So it was time to take him out.
