Something Wrong With My Cory

This is getting very depressing.
The tank has been running for 9 months with only one fish dying untill the last few weeks and now everything is just going wrong. There is no problem with my water as I test it weekly so I really don't know what is causing all these problems.

Which med would you recommend to use in the main tank?
I just want one that will sort out any problems before they start.

The jbl med but it will wipe the bacteria off in your filter.
Can you make a list of all the symtoms for us to take a look at, any fish lost weight, or have a bent spine.

I've had a good look at all my fish and there is an albino cory with faint red lines in his tail but seems healthy and is swimming and eating.
There is 1 fat neon who has all his colour and is swimming with the others.
There is 1 neon with a bent spine but he was like that when I got him, I think he must have been born like that. I have had him 6 months and he hasn't got any worse.
There is another albino cory which looks like he has a small blueish bruise on his side but once again is not showing any signs of sickness.

All fish are swimming and eating as usual and not acting strange at all. Allthough the cory who has the mouth rot was swimming around the main tank before I removed him like nothing was wrong, which is why I thought he had bumped into something that done the damage rather than had an illness.

I can't see any other fish with problems but I will keep a watch on them.

I have added the interpet bacteria med which says wait 7 days before using again so if the fish are not improving I will use it again then.

Thanks for the info,

I am keeping a watch on all the fish and all of the other fish seem fine, when I fed them earlier all of the fish were eating so I think that must be a good sign.

I am treating the tank with the interpet bacterial med at the moment but I think I will use the furanol in there when it arrives and remove the filter sponges, this should sort out any problems finally.

The good news is the cory with the bad face seems to be doing well, it is hard to see but his colour is returning to normal around the mouth area and he went mad for his food this evening. I don't know if all the meds I have been using has stopped the columnaris from getting any worse and is starting to improve but I will use the furanol on him aswell when it comes.

Thanks again for your help.

God the board is so slow tonight.
Bless him, good luck then, keep us all updated on the progress.

I'm glad it's not just me who was having problems with the board being slow, I thought my computer was going wrong.

I am sure I will be back asking for more advice when the furanol arrives, I just like to check things before I try them.

The furanol arrived today and I have used it with the cory on his own even though he has been improving I just wanted to make sure he was going to be ok.

I am going to use it on the main tank either later tonight or tomorrow but I was wondering what to do with the filter.
It is the Juwel filter which came with the tank so I can't run it anywhere else, the instructions said keep the sponges damp would this work as I have to remove them for 4 days?

Would the sponges have any of the bacterial infection on them? if not I could put a couple of the sponges in the filter of my dads goldfish tank.
I just want to make sure I won't make the goldfish sick aswell and that when I put them back in my tank it won't bring back the columnaris.

Thanks for any advice.

Yes it could have the bacteria in the sponges, plus keeping the sponges damp is not enough, as they need a constant flow of water going over them, your dad with the goldfish maybe could give you some sponges from his tank to get things going again.

Shall I keep the sponges in the tank while I use the med and throw them away after?
I can use a sponge from the goldfish filter so I shouldn't have any problems after as they produce alot more waste than my fish.

Yes you could keep the sponges but it will only take a day to wipe he bacteria colony out.

So will it be safe to use the same sponges after finishing the furanol?

I am guessing if this med wipes out all the good bacteria it should get rid of the bad aswell.

Just sterlise them in the microwave, that what i do.

Just wanted to give an update on my fish.
Unfortunally the bloated neon died the first day of using the furanol, he was having trouble breathing so I was expecting it.
The good news is the cory that had the mouth rot has now got 2 barbels and the fins underneath have grown back.
The platy had developed a white spot on his tail which has now pretty much gone.
The albino cory that had red streaks in his tail then lost some of his tail, but it has started to grow back and the red lines have nearly faded.
No other fish developed any symptoms.

I have changed the water and I am going to keep an eye on them for the next couple of weeks and put the bronze cory back in the main tank, he is starting to look a little depressed on his own.

I think I have finally got rid of the bacterial infection in my tank.

Thanks very much for all your help Wilder. :D

Thats good news, sorry about the neon though. R.I.P.
